Today, Phi Iota Alpha celebrates 180 Years of Independence for La República Dominicana!

During the Haitian occupation, Juan Pablo Duarte from Santo Domingo created a secret society named “La Trinitaria” and planned a coup against the Haitian rulers. On February 27, 1844, Juan Pablo Duarte and the rest of “La Triniatria” successfully established the Dominican Republic’s independence as a sovereign state with a cannon shot from the “Puerta del Conde” in Santo Domingo and the rise of the Dominican blue, red, and white flag.

The Palmchat, Dominican Republics National Bird, is known for its distinctive appearance, call and sociable nature. With its charming demeanor and symbolic significance, it proudly represents the Biodiversity and Richness of the Dominican Republics Culture.

Today, Phi Iota Alpha celebrates the birthday of one of our Distinguished Pillars, José de San Martín!

José de San Martin was an Argentine soldier, statesman, and national hero who helped lead the revolutions against Spanish rule in Argentina, Chile, and Peru. Initially, he fought loyally for Spain against the Moors, the British, and the Portuguese, but in 1812, he returned to the New World to help the revolutionaries. His greatest campaign was the liberation of Lima, without which the independence of the Argentine provinces could not have been secured.

In 1818, he met with Simón Bolívar, another one of our Distinguished Pillars; what passed between them is unknown, but San Martín soon afterward went into exile in France, leaving Bolívar to complete the liberation of Peru.

The roots of Phi lota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. were implanted at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, NY in 1898. A group of Latin American students organized the Union Hispano Americana (UHA) as a cultural and intellectual secret society based on the ideology of Pan-Americanism.
On December 26, of 1931, the most profound historical event in the history of Latino Fraternities took place in Troy, NY. Delegates from Phi Lambda Alpha Fraternity and Sigma lota Fraternity assembled with the objective of forming a strong and extensive Fraternity to address the needs of Latin Americans in universities across the U.S. On the first day of this three-day convention, Phi lota Alpha Latino Fraternity was born as both groups agreed on the merger contract to unify under one name, one banner, one organization and one ideal.
Hermans, join us in celebration commemorating our 92nd Anniversary since our establishment. With Phi lota Alpha serving as a beacon of light for those that seek it. Today we rejoice and ask all brothers across the world to reinvigorate their commitments to lead
"Para La Juventud de America" and the ideals of Pan-Americanism.
Happy Anniversary Distinguished Brothers of Phi lota

Phi Iota Alpha celebrates Mexico's Dia de la Independencia!

Early on the morning of September 16, 1810, Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla summoned the largely Indian and Mestizo congregation of his small Dolores parish church and urged them to take up arms and fight for Mexico’s independence from Spain. His El Grito de Dolores, or Cry of Dolores, which was spoken, not written, is commemorated on September 16th as Mexican Independence Day!

Today, the Golden Eagle remains a symbol of strength and freedom in Mexican culture and is featured on the Country’s Coat of Arms and Flag!

Phi Iota Alpha celebrates El Día de la Independencia to the following countries: El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua!

On September 15, 1821, these countries joined forces and signed the proclamation that would come to be known as La Acta de Independencia de América Central or the Act of Independence for Central America!

The Turquoise-browed Motmot, El Salvador and Nicaragua's national Bird, symbolizes the vibrant colors and resilience of these beautiful Nations.

The Clay-Colored Thrush, Costa Rica's National Bird, soars high above the colorful landscapes of this lush Country!

The Scarlet Macaw, Honduras National Bird, symbolizes strength and freedom!

The Resplendent Quetzal, Guatemala's National Bird, represents Liberty and the Cultural richness in the heart of Central America.

Join us in celebrating the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of these incredible Countries on this historic day of their Independencia!

Today, we pause to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. A Day that forever changed our world. On this solemn Anniversary, we honor the lives lost, the heroes who emerged, and the strength of a Nation that came together in the face of adversity.

As we reflect on the 22nd Anniversary of 9/11, let us never forget the nearly 3,000 innocent souls who perished that day, the countless First Responders who bravely rushed into danger, and the families who still carry the heavy burden of loss. Their memories continue to inspire us to be resilient and united.

In times of Darkness, the light of human kindness and unity shines the brightest. Let us rekindle the spirit of unity that emerged in the wake of 9/11, showing kindness to one another and standing together as one nation, indivisible.

May we always remember the lessons learned from this tragedy: the importance of compassion, unity, and the enduring strength of the U.S. American spirit.
