At Valparaiso University our mission is to lead and serve, and we’re grateful to introduce our first-year students at orientation to philanthropy and service experiences. Getting involved with the local NWI community defines our Valpo Beacons.

With the help of students in the SPARK Service Ambassadors program at VU, freshmen who participated in orientation had the opportunity to contribute to our food pantry’s outreach by helping create these welcome kits for clients. Each kit comes in a reusable, drawstring bag and includes a:

Reusable water bottle
Pair of socks
Travel-sized first-aid kit
Snack bar
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Chapstick
Trail mix or trail snack
Body wash
Powdered drink mix
Skin lotion

Ms. Alyssa, who coordinated outreach through the Hunger Relief Program with the READI Grant last semester, helped oversee the project and delivered the kits today. Thank you to everyone who participated—your generosity will make a meaningful difference in our community!
