Earlier this spring, Bartlett Tree Experts donated a bucket truck for our urban forestry and arboriculture students to use in their classes and projects. We are incredibly thankful to Scott Jamieson (BS 1984) and his colleagues for the equipment and their continued support of urban forestry at Purdue. These photos are from the official handoff from Bartlett to FNR, including Purdue Extension urban forestry specialist Ben McCallister, Jamieson, department head Tomas Hook and associate department head Liz Flaherty as well as a few FNR and Purdue Student Society of Arboriculture students.

We're catching up on Week 5 action at Summer Practicum with our wildlife and aquatic sciences students in the U.P. of Michigan, while our forestry students were back home in Indiana for urban forestry week. Week 4 was Bird Week for our Wildlife cohort, but our aquatic sciences and forestry students also had plenty to do. Check out the action from the first half of Week 4 in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our students wrap up Practicum this week, but postcards do take time to arrive, so we will still have plenty more photos to share next week.

In late April, we took a look back with some of those individuals who have shaped the history of our department at our annual retired faculty/staff luncheon. As FNR celebrates its 100th year as part of the College of Agriculture and 112th year in the existance of the forestry major, we were blessed to welcome back several retirees and their spouses and/or widows to the Wright Center for a day of food and fellowship.

Help us congratulate the first graduates of the Indiana Land Stewardship Leadership Academy! (https://ag.purdue.edu/news/department/fnr/2026/06/indiana-lsla-graduates-first-class.html) This cohort went through 17 weeks of training aimed at deepening conservation practitioners’ understanding of agriculture, farmers and farm decision-making to improve conservation delivery on private lands.

The Indiana LSLA was facilitated by Purdue Extension specialists Jarred Brooke and Jessica Outcalt and Seth Harden, The Nature Conservancy’s Upper Wabash River Project director. Funding for LSLA was provided by a North Central Sustainable Agricultural Research and Education professional development grant and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
