Wichita State University Athletics has named Denning Gerig Director of Broadcasting and the new Voice of the Shockers.

Gerig will follow Mike Kennedy, who after 46 years in the role retired last month.

Gerig, a Wichita native and WSU alum, said he grew up listening to Kennedy and considers himself lucky to have had him as a role model and mentor.

"A lot of teams have a broadcaster,” Gerig said. "Not a lot of teams have a voice. That’s what Mike did."
