Shocker Neighborhood Coalition

Shocker Neighborhood Coalition The SNC is a partnership of Wichita State University faculty, staff and students that works to connect the University with its neighboring communities.

SNC activities are administered by the Office of Strategic Engagement and Planning (SEP). Wichita State University's Shocker Neighborhood Coalition (SNC) has worked alongside Fairmount neighborhood residents previously to build a healthy and active community south of the campus. The coalition, was led by Ted Ayres, who was the director of Community Engagement and Opportunity at the time and provid

ed a reference point for the communities surrounding the university. In May 2015, the SNC received a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation to assist in community engagement of the Fairmount neighborhood. The community liaison Darryl Carrington at the time, worked alongside community members to develop an identity for the neighborhood to rally around. This will be based not only on the rich history of the neighborhood, but also on the needs and wants of Fairmount residents. We are now in the next phase of this work. WSU Public Policy and Management Center (PPMC) has been an active leader and participant with the Shocker Neighborhood Coalition. The PPMC will continue to support this work as part of the Office of Strategic Engagement and Planning (SEP). We (SEP) are excited to be able to continue working alongside the community and thank PPMC and many other partners on campus for the opportunity to work on the next phase of this engagement.
