CUSail

CUSail is a Cornell Engineering project team that designs and builds a fully autonomous robotic sailboat for competition and oceanic research.

CUSail is a Cornell Engineering Project Team comprised of 19 undergraduate students from 3 different colleges and 8 different majors. We work together as a team to build a fully autonomous robotic sailboat for competition and oceanic research. Each year we design our boat using CAD and then manufacture it using composites and other materials. In June, we compete in SailBot, the International Robot

ic Sailing Competition held annually. We hope that from our experiences in the competition we can achieve our long term goal of finding an optimal boat design to create an inexpensive autonomous vessel for all different types oceanic and environmental research.

Please note that our Mechanical and our Business & Operations subteams are accepting applications from both freshmen and upperclassmen, however our Navigation subteam will be exclusively recruiting freshmen this cycle.

WE DID IT‼️‼️ For the first time ever, CUSail took 1st place overall at this year’s sailboat competition—placing 1st in 5 out of 6 events. ⛵️🏆

After a year of design reviews, late-night builds, and testing in all conditions, we’re so proud of what the team accomplished.

Huge thank you to our amazing sponsors and supporters—we couldn’t have done it without you. We’re so excited to build on this momentum and take on even bigger and bolder projects in the future. This is just the beginning!
