JU’s Bhaderwah Campus Organizes Special Lecture on “Operation Sindoor” in Collaboration with Indian Army

Bhaderwah Campus today organized a special lecture on “Operation Sindoor” in collaboration with the Indian Army (4RR) with the objective of providing valuable insights on the subject and creating awareness among students about the role, sacrifices, and strategic importance of the Indian Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation.

The event was held under the chairmanship of Rector, Bhaderwah Campus, Prof. Rahul Gupta, who attended the programme as the Chief Guest. The programme also featured Commanding Officer, 4RR, Col Yogesh Chauhan, as the keynote speaker.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Rahul Gupta lauded the remarkable contributions and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces in protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the nation. He emphasized that such academic interactions play a vital role in bridging the gap between educational institutions and national institutions like the Army, thereby helping students gain practical exposure and broader perspectives on issues of national importance.

He further stated that Bhaderwah Campus remains committed to organizing meaningful academic and awareness programmes aimed at the holistic development of students. Prof. Gupta appreciated the Indian Army for extending support and cooperation in conducting the lecture and expressed hope for continued collaboration in future educational and motivational initiatives.

During the lecture, Col Yogesh Chauhan delivered an informative and thought-provoking presentation through a PowerPoint Presentation (PPT), elaborating on various dimensions of Operation Sindoor. He shared valuable experiences, operational insights, and strategic perspectives related to the mission while highlighting the dedication, courage, and professionalism of Indian Army personnel working under challenging circumstances.

His address provided students with a deeper understanding of national security, leadership, teamwork, and the spirit of service towards the nation.

Interacting with the students, Col Yogesh Chauhan encouraged the youth to remain disciplined, focused, and committed towards nation-building. He also emphasized the importance of patriotism, moral values, and collective responsibility in strengthening the social fabric of the country.

A large number of students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff attended the event and actively participated in the interactive session. The audience showed keen interest throughout the programme and appreciated the efforts of the organizers for arranging such an informative lecture.

External Relations Officer, Arif Haleem Khateeb, conducted the proceedings of the programme.

The formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Rakesh Sharma, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished speaker, the Chief Guest, officers from the Indian Army, faculty members, staff, and students for making the programme successful and memorable.

University of Jammu organized a symposium on “The Impact of Substance Abuse on Young Mind”

 
The Centre for Women’s Studies (CWS), University of Jammu, today organized a symposium on “The Impact of Substance Abuse on Young Minds, Academic Growth, and the Role of Youth in Fighting Substance Abuse” in the Seminar Hall of CWS as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – 100 Day Campaign.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, CWS, highlighted the alarming rise in substance abuse among youth and its devastating impact on families, education, and society. She stressed that academic institutions have a crucial role in sensitizing students and fostering resilience, self-discipline, and informed decision-making. She further urged students to become change-makers by spreading awareness among their peer groups and actively contributing towards building a drug-free society.

Students from different departments, including Harshika Atri, Misba Choudhary, Ritesh Singh, Rajdeep, Shambhavi, Mutaqen, Ifrah, Chand, Mahima, Parth, Ashwini, Nawaz Hussain, and Mohd. Saabik, enthusiastically participated in the symposium and shared their views on the harmful effects of substance abuse on mental health, academic performance, and the overall development of youth.

The discussions highlighted the growing need for awareness, counselling, and collective action to prevent drug addiction among young people. A collective pledge was also administered to spread awareness and work towards the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.

Dr. Saranjit Kour conducted the proceedings of the programme, while Dr. Disha Sharma presented the formal vote of thanks. Both are faculty members of the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu.

Reasi Campus, University of Jammu Organises Jan Sampark Abhiyan and Padyatra in Pouni under NMJKA

In compliance with the directions of the Directorate of Colleges, Higher Education Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Reasi Campus, University of Jammu, under the leadership of Prof. Sushil K. Pandey, Director, organised a Jan Sampark Abhiyan and Padyatra in Pouni town of Reasi district on Wednesday under the Nasha Mukht Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan (NMJKA) to spread awareness against drug abuse.

The padyatra commenced from Government Higher Secondary School, Pouni, and culminated at the Tehsil Office, Pouni. The programme formed part of the series of awareness activities being undertaken by the Campus under the anti-drug campaign. Earlier, the Campus had organised a pledge-taking ceremony and poster-making competition on April 21, 2026, followed by an awareness rally under the Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) in Reasi town on April 23, 2026.

Students of MA Sociology (2nd and 4th Semesters), along with faculty members and staff, participated enthusiastically in the awareness march. Carrying banners and placards and raising anti-drug slogans, the participants appealed particularly to the youth to stay away from substance abuse and utilise their energy in education, sports and constructive activities.

The participants highlighted that drug addiction not only affects individuals but also weakens families and society at large. They stressed the need for sustained awareness campaigns, counselling and community support to build a healthier and safer society.

The programme also formed an integral part of the Viksit Bharat Abhiyan, reinforcing the collective resolve towards building a drug-free nation in line with the vision of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Nisha Sharma, Dr. Pankaj, Dr. Ravi Kumar, Ms. Nedhi Thakur, Mr. Babloo Salaria and Mr. Sandeep Sharma.

University of Jammu Organizes One-Day Research Methodology Workshop on “Netnography in Practice: A Contemporary Research Method”

The Business School (TBS), University of Jammu successfully organized a one-day Research Methodology Workshop on the theme “Netnography in Practice: A Contemporary Research Method” for its research scholars. The workshop was organized with the objective of equipping PhD scholars with contemporary research methodologies and strengthening the research ecosystem of the institution.

The workshop introduced participants to Netnography, a modern qualitative research methodology adapted from ethnography and specifically designed to study online communities, digital cultures, and virtual consumer behaviour. The session provided valuable insights into the application of netnographic techniques in contemporary academic and industry-oriented research.

The resource person for the workshop was Dr. Gurpreet Kour, Instructor of Record at Purdue University, USA, an accomplished academician and researcher with extensive international teaching and research experience in tourism, destination branding, and services marketing. Dr. Kour shared practical insights, global perspectives, and methodological approaches that enriched the understanding of the participants regarding emerging qualitative research practices.

Nearly fifty research scholars of TBS participated enthusiastically in the workshop. During the interactive sessions, scholars also presented their ongoing research work, shared their academic journeys and experiences during their PhD programmes, and engaged in meaningful and fruitful discussions with the resource person. The workshop provided an excellent platform for academic interaction, peer learning, and scholarly exchange.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Professor Amisha Gupta, Director, The Business School, University of Jammu, emphasized the importance of creating a vibrant and progressive research culture within the institution. She reiterated her commitment to strengthening the research ecosystem of TBS through such academic initiatives and encouraging scholars to adopt contemporary and globally relevant research methodologies. She further stated that such initiatives would help elevate TBS to newer heights of academic excellence and research innovation.

The event witnessed an engaging question-and-answer session wherein participants expressed appreciation for the enriching learning experience and the opportunity to interact with an internationally recognized academic expert.

The workshop concluded with the concluding remarks and a vote of thanks presented by Professor Komal Nagar, Research Coordinator, TBS. Dr. Shelleka Gupta, Assistant Professor, TBS, coordinated the programme.

Kathua Campus (JU), University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), successfully organized a yoga session titled “Yoga and Mindfulness: Path to Holistic Well-Being” under the aegis of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA).
The session aimed to promote awareness about the importance of physical and mental well-being while encouraging a healthy, substance-free lifestyle among students and faculty members. The initiative aligns with the broader objectives of NMBA to foster a drug-free society through preventive and educational measures.
The session was conducted by Ms. Shalini Gupta, a certified yoga instructor, who served as the resource person for the event. She guided participants through various yoga asanas, breathing techniques**, and** exercises designed to reduce stress and improve concentration. All the faculty members and the students of UIET actively participated in the session and appreciated the practical insights shared during the program.
On the occasion, Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector/Coordinator, UIET Kathua Campus, conveyed his message emphasizing that yoga and mindfulness are essential tools for achieving balance in today’s fast-paced life. He highlighted that regular practice not only improves physical health but also strengthens mental resilience, enabling individuals to make informed and responsible life choices.
Dr. Rockey Gupta, I/C Principal, UIET Kathua Campus, in his message, encouraged students to adopt yoga as a daily practice to enhance concentration, reduce stress, and maintain emotional well-being. He reiterated that such initiatives play a crucial role in shaping a disciplined and healthy academic community, free from substance abuse.

हिंदी भाषा के मानकीकरण एवं उच्चारण पर हिंदी निदेशालय की व्याख्यान शृंखला का शुभारम्भ

हिंदी निदेशालय, जम्मू विश्वविद्यालय ने हिन्दी भाषा की गुणवत्ता में सुधार करने के उद्देश्य को लेकर प्राथमिक से उच्च शिक्षा तक सरकारी व गैर सरकारी शिक्षा संस्थानों में विभिन्न गतिविधियों के अंतर्गत विद्यार्थियों, अध्यापकों, कर्मचारियों को हिंदी भाषा में संभावित परिवर्तन के प्रति जागरूक बनाने, विभिन्न प्रतियोगिताओं, व्याख्यान शृंखलाओं, प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रमों, कार्यशालाओं आदि गतिविधियों का आयोजन करवाने की योजना बनाई है। इसी सन्दर्भ में आज 12 मई, 2026 को जम्मू विश्वविद्यालय के हिंदी निदेशालय ने स्कूली स्तर पर सरकारी उच्च माध्यमिक विद्यालय, डिली, छन्नी हिम्मत में व्याख्यान शृंखला का शुभारम्भ किया। कार्यक्रम का आरम्भ प्रधानाचार्य, श्री विजय गुप्ता के स्वागत द्वारा हुआ । प्रो. अंजू शर्मा निदेशक, हिंदी निदेशालय, जम्मू विश्वविद्यालय ने हिंदी निदेशालय के उद्देश्यों पर प्रकाश डालते हुए आगामी योजनाओं पर बात की और विद्यार्थियों को प्रोत्साहित किया । डॉ. कोशिका शर्मा, सहायक आचार्य, हिंदी निदेशालय, जम्मू विश्वविद्यालय ने ‘हिंदी का मानकीकरण और उच्चारण’ विषय पर संवादात्मक व्याख्यान दिया। डॉ. कोशिका ने हिंदी भाषा की शब्दावली, व्याकरण एवं वर्तनी का एकरूपीकरण को सुनिश्चित करने की बात की। इसके साथ ही विद्यार्थियों की हिंदी वर्तनी व उच्चारण सम्बन्धी त्रुटियों को अभ्यास द्वारा उनकी भाषा शुद्धता एवं संप्रेषण क्षमता को सशक्त करने का प्रयास किया गया।

व्याख्यान के दौरान विद्यार्थियों की जिज्ञासाओं को डॉ. कोशिका ने संतोषजनक उत्तर देकर शांत किया । इस सत्र में नवीं व दसवीं कक्षा के साठ से अधिक विद्यार्थियों ने भाग लिया तथा दस के अधिक शिक्षक उपस्थित थे ।

Kathua Campus (JU) organizes an Expert Lecture on “The Future of Human-AI Communication”

Kathua Campus, University of Jammu organized an expert lecture on the theme “The Future of Human-AI Communication”. The expert lecture was delivered by Dr. Shubhnandan Singh Jamwal, Professor, Department of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu.

In his lecture, Dr. Jamwal highlighted the evolution of Artificial Intelligence and its growing role in human communication. He discussed the beginning of AI as a field in 1956, the development of early expert systems such as DENDRAL and MYCIN, and explained how Generative AI enables machines to create text, images, music, code and videos using tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, DALL·E, Midjourney and GitHub Copilot.

Dr. Jamwal also elaborated on important applications of AI and Natural Language Processing, including sentiment analysis, chatbots, machine translation, speech recognition, question answering, emotion detection and deepfake detection. He explained key concepts such as cognitive computing, Word2Vec, BERT and FastText, while emphasizing the importance of context in human-AI communication. He further sensitized the participants about ethical concerns related to AI, including bias, privacy violation, misinformation, plagiarism, copyright issues and cultural and linguistic inequality.

Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu appreciated the initiative and said that such expert lectures are highly relevant in the present era, where Artificial Intelligence is transforming communication, education, research and professional practices. He emphasized that students and faculty must develop a deeper understanding of emerging technologies so that they can use AI responsibly, ethically and effectively for academic and societal benefit.

Further, Prof. Jasrotia appreciated the efforts of Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Convener, UG Admissions 2026-27 and other faculty members for successfully initiating the UG admissions process for BCA (Data Science), BBA and B.A. English at such short notice.

Earlier, Dr. Sourabh Shastri, I/c Head, Computer Science Department, Kathua Campus welcomed the resource person and said that the lecture would provide valuable exposure to students regarding the changing dimensions of human-machine interaction. He stated that Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing have become important areas of study and research, and such academic interactions help students understand both the opportunities and challenges associated with AI-based communication systems.

Dr. Sunny Sharma coordinated the whole programme, whereas Dr. Pranav Ratta delivered formal vote of thanks.

Following PM’s Call for fuel conservation, JU now to hold Academic Council meeting at Jammu, decides to encourage online Ph.D. Vivas

The University of Jammu has decided that the forthcoming meeting of the Academic Council, which was earlier scheduled to be held at Poonch Campus, shall now be conducted in Jammu.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai, in view of the recent appeal made by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India emphasizing fuel conservation and the adoption of sustainable practices in daily functioning.

During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor underlined the importance of supporting the national call for reducing unnecessary fuel consumption and adopting responsible administrative measures. He observed that institutions must also contribute towards larger national efforts aimed at conserving resources and promoting efficient working practices.

The Prime Minister, in his recent appeal, urged citizens and institutions to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel, make greater use of public transport systems, encourage carpooling, increase the use of electric vehicles, and shift cargo transportation towards railways wherever feasible. He also stressed the need to revive practices such as virtual meetings and video conferencing, which will significantly help in reducing fuel consumption.

In reference to this appeal, the University also decided that Ph.D. viva-voce examinations shall, as far as possible, be conducted through online mode to minimize travel and support the larger objective of energy conservation and efficient academic functioning.

The University further resolved to encourage greater use of digital platforms in academic processes and administrative functioning in line with the broader national objective of resource conservation, efficient governance, and sustainable institutional practices.

University of Jammu Organises Certificate Distribution Ceremony for Counselling Internship Programme

The Department of Home Science, University of Jammu, organised a Certificate Distribution Ceremony to mark the successful completion of a 120-hour Internship Programme in Guidance and Counselling conducted in collaboration with CARE North for the students of M.Sc. Home Science (Human Development) Semester IV. The internship aimed to provide students with practical exposure and professional training in the field of counselling.

Dr. Chand Trehan was the special guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Chand Trehan highlighted the importance of internships in bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application. She appreciated the students for successfully completing the programme and encouraged them to continue strengthening their professional and interpersonal skills through practical exposure and active engagement.

Prof. Sarika Manhas, HoD, Dept of Home Sci congratulated the students on successfully completing the internship and appreciated their dedication and active participation throughout the programme. She described the internship as an important milestone in the students’ academic and professional journey and emphasised that such experiential learning opportunities significantly contribute to skill development, confidence building and future career prospects.

Earlier, Prof. Samridhi Arora delivered the welcome address and outlined the major components of the internship, including expert lectures, interactive sessions, counselling activities and field visits to rehabilitation centres, clinics and schools. She informed that the programme enabled students to gain practical insights into counselling techniques, communication skills, case studies, psychological tests and institutional functioning. An orientation to Art Therapy was also included as part of the internship programme.

The students shared positive feedback regarding the internship and described the field visits and counselling sessions as enriching learning experiences that helped them connect theory with practice while enhancing their confidence and communication skills.

The internship forms an integral part of the Master’s Degree Programme in Human Development and provides students with practical exposure in diverse areas such as Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), disability rehabilitation, institutional management, counselling and welfare-based agencies.

Research scholars and students attended the programme. The proceedings of the event were conducted by research scholar Ms. Ananya Khajuria.
