🎉 MSE Inventors Clinch Two Gold Medals at the 5th Asia Exhibition of Innovations & Inventions Hong Kong (AEII)🎉

We‘re thrilled to announce that MSE recently clinched 2 Gold medals among the 17 awards won by CityUHK at the 5th AEII Hong Kong, held on 4–5 December! 🏅🏅

🏅 Awards Won by CityUHK:
• 1 Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury
• 6 Gold Medals
• 7 Silver Medals
• 3 Bronze Medals

The MSE’s award-winning projects are:
1) Self-Powered Magnesium-Nitrate Cell for Simultaneous Nitrogen/Phosphorus Removal and Recovery from Wastewater (Inventors: Professor Ho Johnny Chung Yin, Dr Chen D**g, Dr Quan Quan, Miss Yin Di, Miss Chen Mengxue)
2) CityAir+ UltraPurification: UVC Optical Cavity-based Enhancer, Self-Cleaning Photocatalysis, and Silver-Ion Antimicrobial Filtration for Synergistic Air Purification (Inventors: Professor Juan Antonio Zapien, Miss Kwong Yee Man, Dr May Thawda Phoo, Dr Md Rashedul Huqe, E-VITY Limited* and Sambo Limited*)

(*) The award-winning teams under HK Tech 300, CityUHK’s large-scale flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme.

🏆CityUHK Materials Science reached new heights in the 2025-26 U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings🌍

🎖️CityUHK secured the 1st position in Hong Kong and an impressive 5th place globally in the subject ranking of Materials Science, rising from 9th in 2024-25. We have also made significant progress in the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology discipline, ranked #1 in Hong Kong and #7 worldwide (previously #10 in 2024-25)👏👏

📈MSE as made a remarkable leap from #62 in 2024 to #52 in 2025! This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of our faculty and research staff. The subject rankings are evaluated based on five indicators: three data-based (Citations, H-index, and IRN) and two survey-based (Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation). With a strong performance in the data-based metrics, we are proud to be ranked #1 in Hong Kong and #11 globally! ✨
