Interested in getting a paid job in the U.S.?

students who complete three quarters (one academic year) of full-time studies may be eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT). This allows them to work for up to one year in the United States while saving money for graduate school or starting their own business. Students can do this by customizing and stacking our certificates to make up nine months of study in their area of interest. Our immigration advisor then guides eligible students through the process.

Cultural Ambassadors are an integral part of our Conversation Classes. They help students to practice their English and the lessons they learn from their instructors. Some of our Cultural Ambassadors have been with us for many years, and have become not only part of the UC San Diego Extended Studies International Programs team, but also part of our international students' family.

So it is with sadness to announce that one of our dearest Cultural Ambassadors has passed.

Joanie Nelson has helped many of our international students feel a home away from home while cultivating their English. She has been an integral part of our community and we are so grateful to her many years of dedication to our department and to our students.
