As a treat for getting through your first week of online classes you get another !!!!

This week were acknowledging two wonderful Art History majors: Noah Foster and Autumn Perron :)

"Hi! My name is Noah Foster, and what interests me most about Art History is Buddhist and Hindu Art, looking at the intersection of artistic expression and ritual practice in sacred spaces".

"Here's a photo of me and some Frank Stella paintings. I enjoy exploring modern and contemporary art and I have a particular interest in learning about the artists that helped create the modern movements that led us to where art is today". -Autumn

Welcome back to Oles! This week's feature is Lindsay Orke a senior Studio Art major.🎨

"My senior studio art project will entail a Multi- Panel Painting; revolving a very important, beautiful, and natural spot that my family and I have gone to ever since I was a baby. The medium I am currently using is acrylic paint and my main focus is to challenge myself with realism. One thing I absolutely enjoy is capturing photos myself and painting them"

"Above are two pics; one sneak peek of my painting and the other is the photo I captured".

Welcome to - yeah we know it feels early, but we want to feature every single one of our amazing senior artists and art historians before their big gallery opening in May!

To kick off the series we want to introduce Thomas Hardy! Thomas is planning on creating a series of illustrations about climate change for his senior capstone project. He plans to make this series "drip with metaphore and surrealism, oozing apprehesion". While enjoying many mediums, he currently plans on using ink and watercolors.

Fun Fact: Thomas once came within a hair's breadth of being struck by a meteroite the size of a plum!

Stay tuned for some sneak peaks and hopefully you can check out his series at our gallery opening on May 3!!

Happy !!

Madi Duran and Holly Smith are our featured seniors this week! Madi Duran studies Art History, while Holly Studies both Art History and Studio Art (wow, talk about a busy Ole)!

When asked about here interests in Art History, Madi responded, "This feels like a trick question! I have a concentration in Asian Studies, and personally I am particularly interested in Korean culture but haven't had the opportunity to study Korean art at St. Olaf. I also have an affinity for Japanese art, especially ceramics related to tea ceremonies."

Meanwhile, Holly's favorite thing about studying art history is that it is always reflective of the circumstances of its creator. She likes using art history to learn about people and what shaped then into who they are.

FUN FACTS: Madi has a cat that is almost as old as she is (20 vs 22) !!! Holly majors in the arts but has been taking a LOT of chemistry courses as she hopes to prepare herself for a career in art restoration. She is currently taking Organic Chemistry 2 this semester - good luck Holly!

Mark the opening date of the senior show on your calendars now so you don't miss the amazing things all of our art history and studio art majors are putting together!

Allyvia is a junior, majoring in English and concentrating in Environmental Studies. Most of her art uses bright colors. Her favorite medium to work in is pen/marker on paper— she says, " I love to draw with them because they’re so easy to bring everywhere". She also enjoys taking scenery photos. She tends to create abstract pieces that start out as one thing, and then shifts as her consciousness does. She notices herself constantly gluing little photo clippings and quotes into her journals.

Fun fact - she keeps a glue stick in her pencil bag at all times. @ St. Olaf College
