Congratulations to the Winners of Water Challenge 2018! Bay Area Water Career Pathways Water Challenge finale at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Just as the local water industry braces for a "silver tsunami" of retirements in the next few years, the Water Challenge high school scholarship program cultivates the next generation of Bay Area water experts. A large, high-profile event, with support from multiple Bay Area utility companies, the Water Challenge is the culmination of a semester-long water-centered high school curriculum. Several hundred local high school students participated in team projects focused on issues faced by water districts.

Today is the day! Bay Area Water Career Pathways Consortium 2018 Water Challenge finale at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Just as the local water industry braces for a "silver tsunami" of retirements in the next few years, the Water Challenge high school scholarship program cultivates the next generation of Bay Area water experts. A large, high-profile event, with support from multiple Bay Area utility companies, the Water Challenge is the culmination of a semester-long water-centered high school curriculum. Several hundred local high school students participated in team projects focused on issues faced by water districts. Top teams from each district will present their projects and receive their scholarships. Go Bay Area students -- save our water!

"Fourteen of the world’s 20 megacities are now experiencing water scarcity or drought conditions. As many as four billion people already live in regions that experience severe water stress for at least one month of the year, according to a 2016 study in the journal Science Advances. Ensuring the safety and quality of more than a billion gallons of water flowing daily through a sprawling network of lakes, reservoirs, and aqueducts requires data….data that is gathered from a combination of sensor networks, sampling stations, and hundreds of thousands of tests performed in the watershed. This enormous monitoring apparatus is a critical part of New York City’s drinking water supply – nature and technology working harmoniously together to enable clean water and the health of a city."
