I cannot thank Katie Lejong from Landmark enough for coming and speaking at our BAP meeting yesterday. It was informative and exciting to hear what’s happening at Landmark and in the Accounting Field. Even with social distancing, mandatory masks and even virtual attendance, we still find ways to connect and network as best we can.

Food/Needs Drive to Benefit the UAFS Lion Pride Pantry



September 11th, 2020



Beta Alpha Psi (the international honor society for accounting, finance and information systems) at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith (UAFS) has asked if we can join together for a special community event. UAFS has recently opened a food and needs pantry for students who may be dealing with food insecurity, an unfortunately too common occurrence, or for students who forgot their lunch. Students who cannot eat well do not perform to the best of their ability.



We are asking our Western Chapter members to begin collecting nonperishable food and needs items, such as cereal, crackers, peanut butter and jelly, rice, pasta, canned soups, canned vegetables, tomato sauces, Ramen noodles, canned fruits, dry beans, coffee, canned meats, note books, folders, pens, pencils, laundry soap, hand soap, hand sanitizer, etc.. We encourage you, your firm and staff, and even your clients and customers to participate.



On September 11th, you may drop off the food or we will have the members of Beta Alpha Psi collect the donations from participating firms to transfer to the food and needs pantry. Not only will you be contributing to the well-being of our local university students, you may meet an up-and-coming future accountant.

If you or your firm would like to participate, please contact Julie Wright at UAFS. She will keep a list of who is participating and will coordinate with Beta Alpha Psi about the pickup (or delivery).

We asked Latishia questions about BAP and graduation. Let’s see what she had to say...

How many times have you changed your major?: Once. I got my associates in Business Admin and then decided to come back for an Accounting degree.

Plans for after graduation: I plan to stay local, get a job, gain experience and pass the CPA.

Favorite memory about UAFS/BAP?: My favorite memory at UAFS would have to be surprising Dr. Wright with flowers this last semester. She wasn’t expecting it and it made me feel good to do something for her.

Which class made you cry the most?: I have shed many tears over all my classes but I would have to say that Government and Advanced are tied for the most.

How did BAP benefit you in your college experience?: BAP gave me a group of like minded students, who understood and shared the same experiences as me, and allowed me to grow. I also made some pretty awesome friends.

Extra curricular activities/organizations you were a part of: I participated in BAP and also the BAPP center

Congratulations on making it to graduation! You are so full of ideas and you get things done! No time for leisure when there is work to be done! I know with that “get things done right the first time” attitude, there is no way you won’t be successful! Your BAP family will definitely miss you!!

We asked Ariana some questions about BAP and graduation, let’s see what she had to say...

How many times have you changed your major?: Once; originally nursing

Plans for after graduation: I have accepted a position with QualServ Solutions in Fort Smith

Favorite memory about UAFS/BAP?: OMG So many to choose from! Probably our Sunday Study sessions with Valerie and Latishia, and Jenny constantly falling asleep on me on trips.

Which class made you cry the most?: Intermediate 1 and Cost, probably more Intermediate 1, Government was pretty bad too.

How did BAP benefit you in your college experience?: Kept me engaged and involved, gave me exponentially more networking opportunities, and helped me feel like I was a part of something and proud to graduate from UAFS.

Extra curricular activities/organizations you were a part of: Beta Alpha Psi, Non Traditional Students Society, Alpha Lambda Sigma, The Babb Center Career development program Gold certificate (whatever it is called?) Accounting and Financial Womens alliance
