I think this Opay conversation should be more balanced. Yes, Nigerians helped build Opay’s growth through adoption and trust, but Opay also took significant risks by investing heavily in Nigeria when many investors and companies were hesitant.

Building in Nigeria is not easy. Infrastructure, regulation, trust, fraud risks, and operational costs are real challenges. Nigerians benefited from the services, jobs, agency networks, convenience, and financial inclusion Opay created, while Opay benefited from the market opportunity.

Also, when it comes to raising large-scale capital, people should ask themselves: how easy is it to raise billions from the Nigerian capital market compared to the US or other global exchanges? Companies often list where they can access deeper liquidity, global investors, and stronger institutional participation.

It’s not always about rejecting Nigeria; sometimes it’s about where the financial ecosystem can support the next stage of growth.

Nigerians didn’t just ‘build Opay’; Opay also chose Nigeria and took the upside of enormous risk when many wouldn’t.

If people think raising large-scale growth capital in Nigeria is easy, then why do many indigenous companies seek foreign investors and international listings?

Markets are partnerships, Nigerians benefited from Opay’s investment, and Opay benefited from Nigeria’s market. 🤝

Omo, I thought Sevilla was going to lose that match 😅

From just above the relegation zone to 12th on the table today… what a game.

Haven’t you noticed that a lot of people who constantly criticize everything or positive efforts, are rarely good at doing anything themselves?

In late August 2025, I went through a deeply distressing experience involving the Nigerian Customs Service.

While travelling with my family, including my four(4) year old daughter, from Minna to Abuja, near Izom, we were stopped by officers who accused us of a car registration mismatch. It quickly became clear that they were running a racket, including POS agents, and I was extorted for about ₦100k under duress.

The situation was even more traumatic when one of the officers stood over me, making sure I didn't save the transaction receipt.

My family was with me, and they threatened to impound our car if I didn’t comply, knowing fully well that it was already getting late, almost 10 pm, and we were travelling in a convoy. This ordeal has left a lasting scar on me, and I still feel the trauma whenever I see similar stories online.

I didn’t get home that day until around 1 am. Such a terrible experience. There was more to it; these are just the bits I could remember.

The last 36 months have been incredibly intense, scaling to levels and numbers I once only imagined, especially moments where things feel like they could spiral, yet you find a way to stay steady.

Navigating two major economic cycles, and never felt more energised..

Ya Allah, I thank You for life. I regret no part of the journey every experience has been worth it.

Nothing to say but Alhamdulillah.

The last frame: "I don't care; age is just a number”.

I think most people in the North haven’t realised that something as simple as stable internet can open you up to jobs that pay in six figures.

A lot of people still think work has to be physical brick and mortar, somewhere you show up to.

Hopefully, this next few years, we can help change that and open more access for people here to see these opportunities.
