LOOK | The Ateneo Social Science Research Center conducted a citizen science training and assessment workshop on corals and seagrass in Siruma, Camarines Sur, June 19–20, 2026.

Coral assessment training was led by Francis Xavier D. Verdadero of ADNU Department of Natural Sciences, while seagrass assessment training was facilitated by Dr. Michael A. Clores of Partido State University, with participants from Brgy. Penitan and Butawanan.

The activity forms part of the project Gender-Inclusive Community-Led Blue Nature-Based Solutions, funded by Forest Foundation Philippines and in partnership with the government of Canada.

LOOK | The Ateneo Social Science Research Center conducted a presentation of baseline results and a participatory workshop for the project, “Gender-Inclusive Community-Led Coastal Nature-Based Solutions with Livelihood Diversification,” at the MLGU Function Hall in Poblacion, Siruma, on May 22, 2026.

The activity highlighted baseline findings on the social, seagrass, and coral conditions of Barangays Penitan and Butawan, Siruma, Camarines Sur, alongside discussions on people’s organizations and policy assessments. Project background was introduced by Cory Lyn Pejo, followed by baseline presentations: Mary Grace Joyce A. Basenio (social), Dr. Michael A. Clores (seagrass), and Francis Xavier D. Verdadero (corals), while Frances Michelle C. Nubla presented the PO and policy assessment.

Participants included representatives from environmental and government organizations across Siruma and the province of Camarines Sur engaged in the project. The activity concluded with the expression of commitment from participants, facilitated by ASSRC. | Ellaiza F. Basa

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!

The Philippine Social Science Council invites submissions for paper abstracts, poster proposals, and panel proposals for the National Social Science Congress 12 with the theme “Examining Poverty Through Social Sciences: Evolving Approaches, Enduring Challenges, and Emerging Pathways”.

The conference will be held from 18 to 20 February 2027 at the Ateneo de Naga University, Bagumbayan Sur, Naga City, Camarines Sur, Philippines. Submission is open until August 20 2026.

𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦: 𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗩𝗢 𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚

Sharing some highlights from the NVIVO User Training Workshop held on May 19, 2026 at the Electronic Resources Center (ERC) featured engaging discussions and hands-on activities facilitated by resource speaker Ms. Mary Grace Joyce A. Besenio, Research Associate of the Ateneo Social Science Research Center - ASSRC.

Librarians, Faculty, and Graduate School Students participated in practical sessions on Auto and Manual Coding, Memo Exercise, Text Search, and Word Frequency, alongside a quick yet insightful discussion on Qualitative Data and Thematic Analysis.

Participants gained valuable insights on organizing, coding, and analyzing qualitative data to support research projects, thesis writing, and academic studies. The workshop also equipped librarians with additional knowledge and practical skills in assisting library users and researchers in utilizing NVivo effectively for their qualitative research needs.

The University Library extends its sincere gratitude to Ms. Grace for generously sharing her expertise, knowledge, and practical experiences throughout the workshop. We also thank Dr. Michael Cuesta, and the ASSRC team for their continued support and collaboration in advancing the research endeavors and initiatives of the University Library.

Thank you as well to all participants for their active engagement and enthusiasm in making the workshop meaningful and productive.
