THREE CASHIERS AGED BETWEEN 53 AND 63 ARRESTED IN MARBLE HALL LICENCE CORRUPTION CASE

Three cashiers at the Marble Hall Driving Licence Testing Centre in the Sekhukhune District have been arrested after allegedly being found with cash linked to a probe into fraudulent learner’s licences.
The women, aged 63,63 and 53, were arrested during an ongoing joint operation involving SAPS Crime Intelligence and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).

According to the SIU, one of the 63-year-old women allegedly hid about R4,500 in her lower undergarment, while another allegedly concealed R800 in her bosom.

The three cashiers face charges of fraud, corruption and contravention of the Cyber Act for allegedly tampering with the eNatis system.The arrests follow the earlier arrest of a suspect allegedly involved in a cash-for-driver’s licence scheme at the testing centre.

The suspect was allegedly found in possession of several learner’s licences. The SIU said the operation intercepted suspects from KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo who were allegedly travelling to collect illicitly issued learner’s licences.

The SIU’s investigation found that a suspect from KwaZulu-Natal allegedly charged applicants R2,000 per learner’s licence, promising to obtain the licences without them undergoing the required tests.The suspect allegedly worked with an accomplice in Limpopo, who in turn worked with examiners at the Marble Hall testing centre to process fraudulent applications.

According to intelligence gathered during the investigation, the syndicate allegedly facilitated bulk transactions involving between 20 and 30 learner’s licences at a time.
The SIU said this effectively bypassed lawful licensing procedures.The investigation is being conducted under the SIU’s Department of Transport proclamation, which authorises it to investigate allegations of corruption in the licensing division, including the unlawful issuing of learner’s licences, manipulation of the Nation

CHAUKE “SHEBE MABURNA” TRIAL POSTPONED TO MAY 2027

The Polokwane Regional Court has postponed the trial of Lehlohonolo Chauke, well known as Shebe Maburna, to 17-21 May 2027, following a pre-trial conference held today.

Chauke is facing 21 charges, including four counts of attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of a fi***rm, unlawful possession of am******on, assault common, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, reckless and negligent driving, and culpable homicide.

During the pre-trial conference, the State indicated that it intends to call 22 witnesses.
The defence indicated that they will indicate to the court how many witnesses they intend to call after familiarising themselves with the case, and that they will be able to provide an outline of their defence.

The defence further indicated that it intends to bring a bail application on new facts, make representations to the Director of Public Prosecutions, and bring an application for the presiding Magistrate, Ms Felleng Ntilane, to recuse herself on grounds of alleged bias.

The allegation has not been determined by the court, and the Magistrate remains seized with the matter pending the outcome of any recusal application.

NORTH WEST ESCAPE INMATE EDWARD MADIBA REARRESTED

North West inmate Edward Khomotso Madiba has been rearrested following his escape from the Rooigrond Maximum Correctional Centre.

Madiba is currently being held at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria.

Authorities are expected to provide further details on his rearrest and the circumstances surrounding his escape.

PROGRESS ON GROBLERSDAL–LUCKAU BULK WATER SUPPLY SCHEME

Communities in parts of Sekhukhune District are set to benefit from improved water security as work on the Groblersdal–Luckau Bulk Water Supply Scheme continues to make significant progress.

On 9 September 2026, the Mayor of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality, Cllr David Tladi, joined the Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Cllr Minah Bahula, and Cllr Carpos Ngobeni, MMC for Integrated Water Services (IWS), during an oversight visit to assess progress and ensure implementation remains on track.

The strategic project aims to address persistent water challenges experienced by communities across parts of the district, while improving the reliability and sustainability of water supply.

Implementation is progressing well, with construction of the pipeline and pump station both nearing completion. Pipeline installation has reached approximately 90% progress, while the pump station is also at approximately 90% completion.

The current implementation focuses on the Motetema, Tafelkop and Bapeding sub-schemes through Phases 1 and 2 of the overall project. Key infrastructure includes the construction of a new pump station, installation of new pumps and electrical equipment, as well as approximately 6.4 kilometres of 350mm GRP pumping pipeline from Tafelkop to the proposed Bapeding Command Reservoir.

Beyond improving water security, the project is also contributing to local economic development. Ten SMMEs have benefited from the project, while approximately 50 work opportunities have been created for local communities.

These opportunities include 20 positions for male unskilled workers, 20 for female unskilled workers, four skilled positions, as well as opportunities for persons with disabilities.

The progress demonstrates the continued commitment of the district and local municipalities to strengthening water infrastructure

SHEBE MABURNA'S 3RD BAIL BID CANCELLED

The NPA in Limpopo says Shebe Maburna's third bail application in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court has been cancelled.

NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi says it was cancelled after he appointed new lawyers who need time to study the case.

Maburna will now appear for pre-trial on Thursday.

He faces 21 charges including 4 counts of attempted murder, theft and malicious damage to property.

COMMUNITY GATHERS TO PAY FINAL TRIBUTE TO TSHEPANG NYATHI

Mourners gathered at 7am this morning at Cullinan Cemetery to pay their final respects to Tshepang Nyathi, whose death has left the Refilwe community mourning.

The burial ceremony was attended by community members in large numbers, including school learners and pastors, who joined the family and loved ones in saying goodbye.

During the programme, pastors and speakers offered words of comfort to the grieving family while also condemning what they described as graceless, ungrounded and negative comments circulating on social media surrounding Tshepang’s death.

The gathering became a moment for the community to focus on the family’s loss, offer support and remember Tshepang as he was laid to rest.

Nyathi was stabbed to death during Spring Day celebrations last week.
