The 2026 Future Finance Leaders Vacation Work Programme by Oasis Crescent is now open for applications!

This exciting two-week programme is open to:
• Bachelor of Business Science specialising in Accounting, Finance, Investment & Banking (2nd year to final year)
• Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting / Bachelor of Accounting (2nd year to final year)
• PGDA students

Participants will gain hands-on exposure in accounting and investment divisions, while building professional networks and industry knowledge with one of South Africa’s leading ethical investment firms.

Bridging Theory and Practice: Income Tax Group Presentations📙

DFIM is proud to share highlights from the recent Income Tax Group Presentations, an initiative aimed at strengthening the practical readiness of our Financial Planning students. This activity forms part of our broader commitment to exposing students to real‑world industry expectations, professional standards, and the applied nature of financial planning.

Through these presentations, students were encouraged to move beyond theory by developing professional communication skills and gaining deeper insight into what is required to succeed as a future financial adviser. This includes not only technical competence, but also ethical awareness and a strong client‑centered approach.

DFIM ushered in the Mother’s Day weekend by spending time with the residents of Park Care Centre on Friday, where we shared a fun-filled musical morning together. 💐

This initiative forms part of our annual community outreach programmes, and we were delighted to be joined by students from UJ Investment Society, UJ ABSIP, and UJ Community Engagement Community Engagement volunteers.

A heartfelt thank you to Park Care Centre for warmly welcoming us and giving us the chance to connect with their residents. We're also grateful to everyone who helped make the day so memorable and meaningful! 🧡

DFIM proudly celebrates and congratulates Dr Basiiraa Moosa on the successful completion of her PhD in Urban and Regional Planning.🎓✨

Her research, “A Framework for Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) for Effective Stormwater Management and Flood Mitigation in Durban, South Africa,” is especially relevant as the country continues to face flooding challenges. Her work highlights the critical role of innovative urban planning in building resilient and sustainable cities.

A special thank you to her supervisors, Prof Trynos Gumbo, Prof Thulisile Mphambukeli, and Prof Thokozani Simelane, for their support and guidance throughout her journey.

We are pleased to announce that Dr Marie Ayaba, DIM's NSP Unit Coordinator, has successfully fulfilled all the requirements for the award of a PhD in Finance. 🎓🎉

Her thesis, “The fundamental factors of crypto assets and their performance in style investing,” provides valuable insights into the evolving fields of financial markets and digital assets.
