IT IS SHAMEFUL FOR ZAMBIA AS A COUNTRY TO KEEP ON DEPENDING ON IMPORTING MAIZE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES. To start with, climate Change has not started today in the world hence it can not be an excuse for failure to produce adequate food in Zambia. Let me clearly submit that Zambians can only stave when there leaders have decided suffering for them.
Zambia has huge water bodies which can produce enough food for home consumption and export. When we talk of the might Zambezi river it stretches from mwinilunga which has relatively rich soil for growth of different crop running through a long stretch to kazungula. using this water body only we can produce more than half of the maize, Weet , rice , soyabean and sunflower that we need in this country.
The question could be why are we failing to do so? It's because this vision to make this country food secure is only in one man who happens to be the president. Even if I have never been a president am pretty sure that he is a busy man with quite a lot of tasks to attend to both local and international. In my own opinion even giving such a task to ministry of agriculture in its natural existence can not yield good results of being food secure and exporting to other countries.
I don't want to sound like I don't have confidence in the ministry of agriculture but to say the truth that stratagems which can help Zambia combat the current and future food deficiency can not easily be found in the existing system but I propose a new agency to be appointed for specifically making this country food secure through elligation systems.
Lastly but not the list, producing enough food which can be sold on a lower or affordable price can never be done by commercial farmers or business men but by the youths of this country using outstanding wisdom to convince them and there parents.
