According to Psychologists, there are four types of Intelligence:

1) Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
2) Emotional Quotient (EQ)
3) Social Quotient (SQ)
4) Adversity Quotient (AQ)

1. Intelligence Quotient (IQ): this is the measure of your level of comprehension. You need IQ to solve maths, memorize things, and recall lessons.

2. Emotional Quotient (EQ): this is the measure of your ability to maintain peace with others, keep to time, be responsible, be honest, respect boundaries, be humble, genuine and considerate.

3. Social Quotient (SQ): this is the measure of your ability to build a network of friends and maintain it over a long period of time.

People that have higher EQ and SQ tend to go further in life than those with a high IQ but low EQ and SQ. Most schools capitalize on improving IQ levels while EQ and SQ are played down.

A man of high IQ can end up being employed by a man of high EQ and SQ even though he has an average IQ.

Your EQ represents your Character, while your SQ represents your Charisma. Give in to habits that will improve these three Qs, especially your EQ and SQ.

Now there is a 4th one, a new paradigm:

4. The Adversity Quotient (AQ): The measure of your ability to go through a rough patch in life, and come out of it without losing your mind.

When faced with troubles, AQ determines who will give up, who will abandon their family, and who will consider su***de.

Parents please expose your children to other areas of life than just Academics. They should adore manual labour (never use work as a form of punishment), Sports and Arts.

Develop their IQ, as well as their EQ, SQ and AQ. They should become multifaceted human beings able to do things independently of their parents.

Finally, do not prepare the road for your children. Prepare your children for the road.

10 mistakes you must avoid in your college essay:

1. Do no sermonize. It's very common to state what people should do or can do but it does not go well while reading such essays.

2. Do not generalize and to form an opinion without enough substance and information. It may sound wise but is not taken well most of the time.

3. It may have been a very painful experience, it may have challenged your convictions, but avoid using a negative approach to ideas. Like 'there was a large room for improvement' sounds better than 'I did not do well'.

4. You may be expressing the biggest truth, yet shying away from your own reaction to this truth will not help. Avoid being neutral and express your reaction to the idea. What did you gain?

5. Being true and transparent is not easy but, if you are ready accept your weakness if required certainly helps to know about your inner strength. So avoid shying away from weaknesses if required.

6. Don't deviate too far from the main topic. Its called beating around the bush or going all over the place. Try to remain focused on the crux.

7. Failing to make it into the school team may have been a big debacle for you but, don't make it sound like the biggest loss. Not able to achieve good grades in a subject is not the end of the world. Chose your debacles carefully.

8. Don't throw statistics unless supported by facts from a reliable source. If you need to stress on trends, mention the source.

9. Don't underplay an achievement yet be careful when playing your trumpet. don't hesitate to give due acknowledgment to all key people who were responsible for the feat.

10. Avoid uncertainties and flexible tones. Try to be confident and firm as much as possible.

Another great evening with parents and students on 31st January at the auditorium of the Indian Consulate in Dubai.
As moderator for the panel discussion 'Theory of Change', centered around the new paradigms of education in India and abroad. Attended by several parents and students from schools spread across the UAE. The session was chaired by Mr. Vipul the Consul General of India, also an esteemed IIT alumnus.
The discussion focused on expatriate students with excellence in sports. Kunal and Randy, the guests from Corvuss Academy in India, brought in some great perspective.

Many students have started writing their essays for university applications. The biggest questions remain, which topic to write. And it is not easy to choose the right topic. There are a number of ways. The best one starts with knocking off the ones which don't seem to click at all. Remaining topics need a whole lot of brainstorming before one can start to write. Feel free to contact us to streamline this process.

This is the time to work your way into the essays. Start by knocking out 3-4 topics, i.e. the ones you feel dont fit the writing space. Then work towards generating ideas for at least 2 topics.
This strategy is time tested and has worked for many students.
Dont forget to discuss and brainstorm the ideas with close family and friends.

Writing essays for college applications.
TIP 1
Authenticity is the key to a great essay. When you are authentic about a topic or an idea, details flow easily and you don't tend to create unnecessary verse. The first step towards an authentic approach is via open discussion with your family members. They can easily direct you towards your potentials and weaknesses which you may ignore a number of times. A number of essays fall flat because of the visible inauthenticities like exaggerations and hyperbole comments. Authenticity should not be confused with humility. They seem similar but have a clear domain.
So while selecting the topic for your application essay, try to choose a topic which is closest to your experiences and ideas, rather than the one which may seem suitable for your application.
