IHC HOLDS 2016 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
On Saturday June 4th, International Horizons College held commencement exercises for the Class of 2016. President Chris Hall presided over the ceremony and gave special thanks to the IHC staff. Dean Bill Wechsler recognized the unique contributions of each member of the IHC faculty and shared some thoughts about the importance of Liberal Arts and Sciences education to professional careers, national societies, and human flourishing. Commencement Speaker RIT-Dubai President Yousuf Al-Assaf provided some inspiring insights into the relationship between education, personal growth, and societal happiness.
Student Council President Yohaan Jacob spoke about the many unique experiences he shared at IHC observing that `’though IHC is a small college, there are those of us who love it.” Valedictorian Talal Aldaughaither spoke passionately about how dramatically he had changed since arriving at IHC from Saudi Arabia and how important IHC was to his personal development and transformation. Two groups of students sang touching songs: Yohaan Jacob and Veronica Abalos Pick – with the guitar accompaniment of Professor Hans Mattingly; and Maha Esmat and Methene Cutad. While both duets were brilliant, Maha’s singing suggested that IHC had momentarily transformed itself into a professional recording studio.
Along with the granting of Associate’s of Arts degrees by President Hall and Dean Wechsler, special recognition was granted to the following graduates: Talal Al Daughaither; Omar Allen; Tarik Baradi; Mujahid Cobbs; Tasneem Pardawala; and Vani Thampi. Though round the girdled earth IHC’s graduates are poised to roam, as one recent IHC alum from Morocco now studying in India put it: “I will always be an IHC student.”
