AUS Writing Center

AUS Writing Center The official page for the Writing Center at the American University of Sharjah. We also offer online tutoring during weeknights and weekends.

We help students complete their papers while teaching them how to improve their writing. To provide this help, we offer individual instruction, helpful handouts, writing resources on our website, and writing workshops throughout the semester. We offer one-on-one writing conferences by appointment or on a drop-in basis to students from throughout the university. During conferences, students and pee

r tutors work together on various aspects of writing: thesis development, organization, outlining, paragraphing, sentence structure, wording, vocabulary and mechanics. The tutorials can help students brainstorm; organize their writing; review grammar, punctuation and mechanics in the context of their writing; or work on a draft critiqued by their instructors. Our work is not limited to writing courses, however. Students are free to review writing for any course at AUS. In fact, students can even visit the Writing Center to discuss writing done outside of their courses at AUS. Many students bring CVs, cover letters, presentations, poetry and fiction writing to their tutorials. We are located on the ground floor of the library, so please visit us to talk about your writing and work with a peer tutor who cares about helping you achieve your goals as a writer. We are committed to helping you become a better, more independent writer. You can make appointments with the Writing Center by registering with our online booking system. The Writing Center is also available on a walk-in basis, but these times are limited since most of the appointment times are scheduled in advance. The appointments are 30 minutes long, but you may book two back-to-back appointments. If it is necessary to cancel an appointment, you must inform the Writing Center at least an hour ahead before the scheduled appointment. If you are more than 10 minutes late for a scheduled appointment, you are considered a "no show" and your time will be given to a student who is waiting for a walk-in consultation. If you miss two scheduled appointments without calling or stopping by at least an hour ahead to cancel, you lose the privilege of scheduling appointments. Come by to take advantage of this free service. We look forward to seeing you! You can access our online booking system here:
