Linux Afghanistan Linux Afghanistan
The first linux community in Afghanistan which is established on Jan 2013 Linux Afghanistan effort to build a knowledge base of Linux videos.

We know that Linux Community is growing; it’s getting bigger every year as it moves across industries and geographies, each year increasing number of contributors, sponsors and the space of development. And now in Afghanistan we want to familiar people to Linux systems and make space for developers. We need to spread knowledge and information about Linux as a flexible Operating system. There are t

housands of "newbie" coming to Linux every day, but how can we as a community in Afghanistan make sure that developers and IT managers new to Linux have the basic information they need to start contributing and benefiting from Linux right now? We've come up with one way we think we can help, but we can’t do it alone. We kindly invite you to share your knowledge with users and developers new to Linux. You can help to learning Linux and transfer expertise around the country and future around the globe, as Linux Afghanistan community. We know that together we can achieve our goal that immigrates to Linux systems in Afghanistan.

Top Five Reasons Why Ubuntu 14.04 Can Replace Windows 8.1 and Windows XP
========================================
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is scheduled to arrive on April 17, just around the time when Windows XP officially reaches end of life. It's regarded as a potential replacement candidate for Win XP, but the truth is that it's also able to replace Windows 8.1.

A lot of users out there, still using Windows XP, are on the fence and are willing to consider an upgrade to Windows 8. Luckily for them, now there are a lot more options than in 2001, when Windows XP was initially launched.

We get a lot of questions regarding this issue and we can safely say that Ubuntu, 14.04 to be more precise, will be able to replace Windows 8.1 and XP with ease. Here are a few reasons why:

1. The installation of Ubuntu is a lot simpler than the one for Windows 8. Even better, the installation recognizes any other operating systems and you can install Linux without wiping your hard drive. This is impossible the other way around.

2. The main interface of Ubuntu 14.04 is easy to use and requires virtually no setup. Long gone are the days of complicated procedures to make it work. Now it just does. Better yet, if you do decide to change it completely, that’s actually pretty easy to do.

3. Most of the software is free and most of the regular things that you would use in a Windows environment have equivalents, which sometimes are even better.

4. You don't need to install any special drivers, besides the ones for the graphic card. Everything you plug in just works. Everything is implemented at the kernel level and you won't have any problems running it on laptops or PC.

5. Ubuntu is a lot more secure that Windows. It's Linux-based and it's very likely that you won't ever see a virus, malware, or anything of that kind. You don't need expensive antivirus solutions. If there is a problem, it's patched right away by the developers.

Be sure to keep an eye on the release of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS in April and give it a go before you do something that you will definitely regret.

Internet Download Speed Of 1.4 Terabits Per second
------------------------------------------------------------
Friday, January 24, 2014: In what can be termed as the biggest breakthrough in the world of internet, scientists in UK have achieved fastest ever broadband speed of 1.4 terabits per second. This speed is enough to transfer 44 high-definition movies at once.
This test was conducted in London by British Telecom and French networking equipment company Alcatel-Lucent jointly, where they achieved the high speeds of 1.4 terabits per second, or 1,83,501Mbps, on the existing fibre network in London. This breakthrough is of high importance for the internet service providers, as it facilitates sending of greater amount of information through existing broadband infrastructure. All this can happen without costly infrastructure upgrades.

OSSEC, the free and open source IDS

Intrusion detection software is meant to monitor network traffic or host activities for malicious actions, such as successful or unsuccessful intrusion attempts, hostile traffic (i.e., malicious scans and denials of service), unauthorized configuration changes, malware symptoms, and user policy violations. An intrusion detection system (IDS) typically can produce reports describing the details of the potentially hazardous activity which generated alerts. OSSEC is particularly useful in this context for many reasons. First, it is an established, reputable product with a proven track record (OSSEC was first released in 2004 and has been owned by Trend Micro since 2009). Second, it is free and open source. Third, it is compatible with most modern operating systems such as Linux, Windows (Server 2008, Server 2003, 7, Vista, XP, 2000) BSD (Free/Open/Net), Unix (Solaris, HP-UX, AIX), and MacOS.

Linux Intro Course Available Online for Free
============================
The open-source Linux operating system is freely available to those who want to use it, but finding good sources of training for Linux has not always been as free. In a move to further enable more people to get Linux training, the Linux Foundation is now opening up its education efforts.

The Linux Foundation is now working with edX to build a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for Linux training. EdX is a nonprofit online learning platform started by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012.

Software-defined network is considered by many to be one of the most important, and potentially disruptive, developments in networking since the rise of the Internet. To date, networks and connectivity have come first, and applications have followed. SDN turns this model on its head, approaching networking from an apps-first standpoint.
