Term 4 2026 | Contemporary Abstraction Masterclass with Christian Lock

In this six week Masterclass, students will explore a range of contemporary approaches to abstract painting. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the rich language of abstraction from the historical modes of Gesture, Geometry and the Biomorphic, through to the new elements and hybrid forms of Contemporary Abstraction.

Students will be working on multiple paintings each session, taking an experimental approach to the materials and processes of painting, working towards a minimum of one resolved painting.

Our Open Day is happening this Saturday 29 August, 10am - 4pm.

See what life is like at South Australia's only independent art school. Take a look inside the final-year students' studios, meet our community of staff and students, take a campus tour with our Academic Director Monte Masi, find a hidden gem at the library book sale and take some baked goods home from the bake sale.

The gallery will be open, showng Pile-up, a solo exhibition by 2026 SALA Feature Artist Troy-Anthony Baylis. Troy will be giving a free artist talk at 12.30pm in the gallery.
