The final days of competition delivered more success for University of Queensland athletes in Glasgow.

Former UQ student Lachlan Kennedy helped Australia claim gold in the men’s 4x100 metres relay.

It was Australia's first Commonwealth Games title in that event since 1974.

In netball, UQ Master of Molecular Imaging Technology graduate Cara Koenen finished her campaign with a bronze medal.

The Australian Diamonds defeated England 68-50 in the third-place playoff after going down to Jamaica in the semi-finals.

QTAC help: does your teen understand the application process?

One of the biggest decisions a Year 12 student has to make is which university they want to attend and what course they would like to study. In Queensland, the application process is run through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).

The prospect of leaving high school is scary but exciting for any teenager. The world is full of possibilities, and they’re assigned the daunting task of deciding where they want their adult life to lead.

Teenagers who want a higher education and the power to do what they love typically choose university as the next step. For teens in Queensland, this means going through the QTAC application process.

QTAC applications are opening soon.

If you’re experiencing financial difficulties and are concerned about funding university studies, follow these steps:

> Apply for the Educational Access Scheme, ‘financial hardship’ category in your QTAC application.

> Put a UQ program in your preference list.

By doing this, you’ll be considered for our TQC Scholarship, which offers $7,000 per year for standard duration of your study, and +5 ATAR adjustments.

- UQ athletes flex their muscles at Commonwealth Games -

A rare opportunity awaits Ryven Ewing as he heads to Glasgow for his Commonwealth Games debut, with the weightlifter set to wear the green and gold in the country he once called home.

Born and raised in Scotland until the age of 8, The University of Queensland student said the chance to represent Australia in front of family and lifelong friends adds extra meaning to his Commonwealth Games debut.

"It'll be so special for people who have been such an important part of my journey to be there and watch,” Ewing said.

“It feels like I'm bringing 2 different worlds together."

The Commonwealth Games have been a long-term goal for the 24-year-old since he made the difficult decision to leave rugby union behind and focus on weightlifting.

Away from the platform, Ewing is studying a Master of Physiotherapy Studies at UQ.

His growing knowledge of human movement, recovery and performance provides a unique perspective ahead of the biggest competition of his career.

"Physiotherapy and weightlifting complement each other really well,” he said. re opportunity awaits Ryven Ewing as he heads to Glasgow for his Commonwealth Games debut, with the weightlifter set to wear the green and gold in the country he once called home.

On Monday 27 July, the Australian Government will conduct a national test of the Emergency Alert system.

The alert will be sent to compatible mobile phones across Australia and will play a loud notification, even if your phone is on silent.

Some people keep a secondary mobile phone, smart watch or other connected device for personal safety. The national test may also activate these devices.

If receiving the alert could place you at risk, consider turning affected devices off or placing them in aeroplane mode before the scheduled test.
