Fletcher Street Cottage

Fletcher Street Cottage Support, information, referrals, basic needs and advocacy for locals in need: Byron Community Centre.

Responding to the growing need for services supporting the local homeless, Byron Community Centre + Creative Capital (the team behind Habitat) have joined forces to reopen Fletcher Street Cottage, located in the middle of town. Previously run as a drop-in centre for the homeless, Fletcher Street Cottage has been closed for five years, due to a lack of funding. Owned by council, they recently voted

to reopen the cottage as a hub for Byron's most vulnerable with co-located services making for easy access.

Every day, people in our community turn to Fletcher Street Cottage for meals, showers, connection and practical support during difficult times.

In just one day recently, our team supported:
🀝 100 visits
🍽️ 85 breakfasts
🚿 20 showers
🧺 10 washes

Behind every number is a real person navigating hardship.

With rising housing and cost of living pressures, more locals are needing support than ever before. Support starts with basic needs. Wraparound care and practical assistance make the change.

This EOFY, we’re asking our community to help keep care and connection available for the people who need it most. Make a tax deductible donation before June 30 and help show that Byron cares.

Handmade with love! Thank you to our laundry volunteer Corrina, who has been knitting beautiful scarves for people accessing Fletcher Street Cottage this winter.

These simple acts of kindness from volunteers (and community members) can make such a difference on a cold day, bringing not just warmth, but care and connection too. Happy Volunteer Week!
