What a wonderful celebration of Sister City friendship!

What a great collective effort by the Cairns Regional Council team, the Cairns Regional Council Sister Cities Program, study tour providers and local stakeholders to welcome students visiting Cairns from our Japanese Sister Cities of Minami and Oyama.

After a wonderful week of activities and experiences across Cairns, what better way to bring everyone together and finish the visit than with a good old Aussie BBQ on the Cairns Esplanade! 🌴☀️

Students from Minami and Oyama joined their host families for a relaxed afternoon of food, laughter and friendship. During the BBQ, we were also delighted to welcome Minami Mayor Kageji Nobuyoshi and Oyama Mayor Masatomi Asano, together with their executive teams, and to see them joining in and enjoying the afternoon with the students and families.

A very special thank you to Sim Hayward, Cairns Regional Council Sister Cities Ambassador, for helping organise the occasion and bringing everyone together, and to the entire Cairns Regional Council team for all the work that went into welcoming and supporting the delegation throughout their week in Cairns.

This year was even more special as we celebrate 20 years of the Cairns–Oyama Sister City relationship — a wonderful milestone representing two decades of friendship, cultural exchange and connections between our communities.

A big thank you also to the students, host families, study tour providers, local stakeholders and everyone who played a part in making the week such a memorable one.

Here’s to 20 years of Cairns–Oyama friendship and to continuing to strengthen the connections between Cairns, Oyama and Minami! 🇦🇺🤝🇯🇵

What a fantastic way to celebrate 150 years of Cairns!
Study Cairns was proud to participate in the Cairns 150 Parade, with around 50 students from JCU: James Cook University, Australia, Frontier Education: RTO No 110080, Imperial Institute of Sydney, CQUniversity Australia, CCEB Cairns College of English & Business - RTO 40520 and ACTIT - Australian College of Tourism and Information Technology joining us to mark this very special milestone for our city.
Embracing the theme “Fun Under the Sun,” our students brought plenty of energy, colour and smiles to the parade.

A special thank you to our Study Cairns Student Ambassadors, who took a leadership role on the day, helping bring students together and making sure everyone felt welcomed and part of the celebration.

Events like this remind us why Cairns is such a great place to study, live and connect. For international students, being part of community celebrations creates a real sense of belonging and an opportunity to build connections beyond the classroom.
Thank you to Cairns Regional Councill and the Mayor Amy Eden for their wonderful ongoing support, and to the wider Cairns community who came along, said hello, cheered and made our students feel so welcome.
We were very proud to see our students representing Cairns’ diverse international education community and being part of such an important moment in our city’s history.
Happy 150 years, Cairns!

This week, it was wonderful to welcome another group of international students to the Student Hub as they begin their studies and their Australian adventure. 🌏

Orientation is a great opportunity for students to settle into life in Cairns, meet new people, and learn more about the support and services available to them during their time in Australia.

We loved seeing everyone getting involved, making connections, and taking their first steps towards building their new community here in Cairns. 🤝

We’re excited to support each student throughout this next chapter and wish them every success as they begin their studies!

Welcome to Cairns — we’re so glad to have you here! 🌴

🇮🇩 Celebrating Indonesian Culture and Community in Cairns!
Study Cairns was delighted to be invited by the Cairns Indonesian-Australian Association Inc. (CIAA) to take part in the celebration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day this August.
A big thank you to Astri, President of CIAA, and the wider Indonesian community for welcoming us and including Study Cairns in such a special celebration.
We were particularly delighted to connect Indonesian international students studying in Cairns with their local Indonesian community, giving students an opportunity to celebrate their culture, meet new people and strengthen their sense of connection and belonging while studying away from home.
The day was filled with traditional Indonesian food, music and cultural performances, including the beautiful Nusantara Dance performance, showcasing Indonesian culture through movement, music and teamwork.
Cairns is home to students and communities from around the world, and occasions like this demonstrate the important role our local multicultural communities play in welcoming and connecting international students.
Congratulations to Astri, CIAA and everyone involved in bringing the celebration together. Thank you for inviting Study Cairns to be part of the day and for continuing to share Indonesian culture with the wider Cairns community.
Here’s to continued friendship, cultural exchange and community connection in Cairns!

🇯🇵🇦🇺 Strengthening Cairns–Minami Sister City Connections
Study Cairns was delighted to be part of the official welcome for students and delegates from our Sister City, Minami, Japan, during their visit to Cairns.
Hosted at Cairns Regional Council, the welcome brought together Mayor Amy Eden, Cairns Regional Councillors and the Council Executive Team, alongside representatives from our Japanese and Cairns communities.
During the welcome, we were pleased to hear from Mayor Amy Eden, Mr Shingo Higashimoto, Head of the Consular Office of Japan in Cairns, and the Mayor of Minami, celebrating the longstanding friendship between our two communities.

Cairns and Minami share a Sister City relationship dating back to 1969, with student and community exchanges continuing to play an important role in strengthening these connections.

For Study Cairns, these student visits are particularly important. They create opportunities not only for cultural exchange and friendship, but also for young people from Minami to experience Cairns as an education destination and discover future pathways to study in our region.

We were delighted to be part of the welcome and look forward to continuing to strengthen the education and community connections between Cairns and Minami. 🇦🇺🤝🇯🇵
