Mannix College is a university residential college affiliated with Monash University and located at the university's Clayton campus. The College, which was established more than 45 years ago as a missionary endeavour of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, provides fully-catered accommodation in a friendly and supportive environment for 288 undergraduate and postgraduate students of Monash Unive

rsity. For Mannix Collegians, life at College is about much more than simply having a convenient and secure place to stay. The College offers excellent accommodation, support and encouragement to student residents in their academic work as well as their intellectual, cultural, physical, social and spiritual development. By living in a broad and caring academic community, and through the many activities that take place at the College, Mannix Collegians develop skills and gain experience that they will take with them and will assist them in making a successful transition from school to university and from tertiary study to professional life. Along among the accommodation options available to Monash students, Mannix College is dedicated, as a traditional denominational university residential college, to the education of the whole person. Monash University and Mannix College thus form a unique partnership in excellence in Australian higher education.

From little things, big things grow.

After the 2023 Voice referendum, many Australians were left asking what reconciliation might look like in their own communities.

At Mannix, students decided to turn reflection into action.

Created by students and led by our Indigenous Advisory Committee (IAC), Together We Grow is a living wall of reconciliation that invites each generation of residents and staff to commit themselves to learning, respect, truth-telling and reconciliation.

At the heart of the project is an oath, written by the IAC. Displayed on the wall itself, it reminds us that reconciliation is not an event or a moment in time. It is an ongoing commitment.

Each participant paints a tile in colours drawn from the Australian landscape. Every tile is marked with that person's initials and unique thumbprint, transforming a personal commitment into a lasting contribution to the project.

Interwoven throughout the wall are significant moments from Indigenous, Australian, Catholic and Mannix history. Together, they encourage us to better understand our shared story, acknowledge both achievement and injustice, and walk together towards a better future.

What began as a student idea has become a growing community legacy.

One tile.

One thumbprint.

One commitment.

Together, hundreds of individual acts become something larger than any one person.

That is how communities grow.

That is how social change happens.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Johnson Tiles Australia for their generous donation of 1,000 tiles to support this project.

Together, we grow.

Each year, the wall grows a little larger.

We look forward to the day it is filled with the initials, thumbprints and shared commitments of generations of the Mannix community.

💙 A scholarship is more than financial support.

It can mean the opportunity to move away from home, the confidence to pursue a degree, the friendships that last a lifetime, and the chance to truly thrive at university.

No matter the size, every gift helps create opportunities for future students.

Every year, we line up, squeeze in, and try to capture the “perfect” shot 📸✨ A snapshot of a moment in time in the colleges history.

It’s more than just a class photo - it’s a yearly tradition, with each one added to the collection dating back to the very first cohort in 1969.

Five APSAA Excellence Awards. Three years. We’re deeply grateful, genuinely humbled, and very proud.

Last night in Adelaide, Mannix was once again recognised on the international stage at the Asia-Pacific Student Accommodation Association Excellence Awards, the leading awards program for university accommodation across the Asia-Pacific region.

Mannix received:
🏆 Best Development Award, for our residential wings refurbishment project
🏆 Best Student Experience Program, for our Young Hearts intergenerational volunteering partnership with Villa Maria Catholic Homes

These awards continue a remarkable period of recognition of our efforts:
🏆 2024 APSAA Excellence Award, Sustainability
🏆 2025 APSAA Excellence Award, Student Experience
🏆 2025 APSAA Excellence Award, Facility Development
🏆 2026 APSAA Excellence Award, Student Experience
🏆 2026 APSAA Excellence Award, Facility Development

Principal Andrew Swan was proud (and a bit emotional!) to accept the awards on behalf of the entire Mannix community, and the many wonderful people and partners who help us do what we do best.

While the 2025 awards reflect very different work, they are connected by a shared idea: that place and people both matter deeply.

The refurbishment project was about more than buildings. It was about improving an environment where students feel safe, supported, more comfortable, and proud to call Mannix home.

Young Hearts carries that same spirit into the wider community, bringing together two Catholic communities, one of younger adults and the other of older adults, through friendship, dignity, compassion, and care.

Thank you to APSAA for recognising the humble efforts of our community.

And, most importantly, thank you to our staff, students, Council, partners, alumni, and supporters. These achievements belong to all of you.

With further thanks to our friends at VMCH, the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, Catholic Development Fund (CDF), SEMZ, Monash University and Harris HMC.
