Today, Figtree High School was proud to host our Community of Schools (CoS) Reconciliation Afternoon Tea.

Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, accompanied by staff from across our CoS schools, came together to celebrate reconciliation, connection, and community. The afternoon featured a BBQ, shared conversations, and a range of engaging activities including Story Stones, Caring for Country through Art, and traditional Indigenous games.

It was wonderful to see students building connections, learning from one another, and celebrating Aboriginal culture in such a positive and inclusive environment.

We would like to thank all of our CoS schools for joining us and contributing to such a meaningful afternoon. We hope everyone had a fantastic time, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen these connections into the future.

Earlier this week, Jarryd (Year 7) and Eamon (Year 8 ) represented the Figtree HS SRC at the Wollongong SRC Meeting. The event was filled with networking with leaders from other local Primary Schools and High Schools in discussions and understanding on leadership, goal setting and sharing ideas on how to improve school environments.

More than 2,500 people gathered at the Reconciliation Walk in Bellambi, including students from Figtree High School, in a powerful demonstration of unity, respect, and shared commitment to reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider community.

The event carried deep cultural significance, bringing together Elders, students, educators, and community members to honour the world’s oldest continuing cultures and acknowledge the enduring connection of First Nations peoples to Country. Through walking together, participants symbolised a collective journey toward understanding, truth-telling, healing, and stronger relationships across generations and cultures.

For students, the walk provided an important opportunity to engage directly with Indigenous history, culture, and perspectives outside the classroom, reinforcing the importance of respect, inclusion, and recognition in shaping Australia’s future.

Thank you to Bellambi Public School for organising such a significant event, and a special thanks to the event coordinator Mrs Neild.

Dear Parents & Carers,

The Figtree High School Athletics Carnival scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday 19 May) has been POSTPONED.

The carnival will now be held on MONDAY 1st June (Week 7).

Tomorrow will be regular timetabled classes.
