Science in the Brewery 2026!

As part of National Science Week, nearly 90 people explored Science in the Brewery: Decoding Our Blue Backyard through inspiring presentations on marine turtle conservation, aquaculture, seagrass restoration and coastal ecosystem science.

From families and students to retirees, educators, researchers and industry representatives, the event brought our community together to discover the incredible science happening right here in Central Queensland. Participants also learned how they can get involved through Team Turtle CQ, seagrass restoration activities, Aquaculture Gladstone tours and local STEM opportunities.

A huge thank you to our guest speakers, our supporters, and especially Ward's Brewery for once again providing the perfect venue for science, conversation and community connection.

The National Science Week Pub Trivia Challenge was the perfect way to finish the evening, with plenty of laughs, friendly competition and science-inspired fun.

We can't wait to see you again next year!

It’s always great to recognise student achievement. CQU and ACCIONA Energía Aldoga Solar Farm launched a new partnership in 2025 under which 4 x VET scholarships and 3 x Higher Education scholarships would be awarded annually for five years.

We came together on the Gladstone Campus last week to award the scholarships for 2026. Congratulations to Yukti Mago, Josiah Orr, Kai Mitchell (all pictured), Madison Olajos, Michaela Reyes and Sharon Manski (who were apologies) for being awarded these prestigious awards only available to students in the Gladstone Region.

Join us for mental health awareness month for ‘More than a Walk’ - a community event for ages 14+ that brings people together to walk, connect and support positive wellbeing.

We'll begin with a community walk, then gather at Sun & Bar Café for a FREE brunch and an opportunity to hear from guest speakers sharing inspiring stories of hope, resilience, and recovery.

Together, we'll celebrate self-care, encourage meaningful conversations, and strengthen the connections that help our community thrive. ✨

Ever wondered about the science behind our local waterways, marine life and conservation efforts?

As part of National Science Week, you're invited to join us for Science in the Brewery: Decoding Our Blue Backyard at Ward's Brewery on Thursday 27 August.

This free community event brings together three fascinating local experts:

• Professor Emma Jackson (CQUniversity)
• Thomas Hayes (Gladstone Area Water Board)
• Anyssa Mason (Team Turtle CQ)

They'll share stories and insights from the front line of marine research, fisheries science and turtle conservation before we put your knowledge to the test in a fun science-themed trivia challenge.

Enjoy complimentary finger food, STEM-themed prizes, good company, and the opportunity to purchase drinks from the bar, including Ward's award-winning craft beers. Their Pale Ale recently claimed the Champion International-Style Pale Ale title at the Australian International Beer Awards.

Whether you're a science enthusiast, trivia lover, student, professional, or simply curious about the incredible science happening in our own backyard, we'd love to see you there.
While attendance is free, registrations are strongly encouraged to help us plan catering and ensure everyone enjoys the evening.
