📚✨ Making a difference through the power of reading!

Thanks to the incredible support of our Somerset College community at this year's Scholastic Book Fair, we are thrilled to donate $2,500 to Room to Read.

This contribution will help provide children around the world with access to quality books, literacy programs, and educational opportunities that can change the course of their lives. Every book opened is a door to new possibilities, and together we are helping more children discover the joy of reading and the power of education.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Book Fair and helped turn a love of books into a lasting impact. 💙📖

On Friday morning, we welcomed our Somerset fathers for our Father’s Day Breakfast. It was a wonderful morning spent together, celebrating the fathers who support, encourage and inspire our students every day.

This morning, our Junior School Teaching Assistants came together for a special morning tea in celebration of Teaching Assistant Appreciation Week.

It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the care, patience and support our Teaching Assistants bring to our students and classrooms each and every day.

Their contribution to our College community is invaluable, and we are incredibly grateful for all that they do.

Throughout Terms 2 and 3, Veivers students in Years 4–6 have been putting their creativity to work for a wonderful cause, creating possum dreys to support the important work of Wildcare. 🌿

Wildcare recently visited the College to collect the dreys and helped students install one by the creek, providing a safe space for our local possums to thrive.

A wonderful example of Shared Humanity in action, showing how small actions can make a big impact. A big thank you to Wildcare for visiting and sharing their knowledge with our students! 🐾

🥞 50 days to go, Year 12!

This morning, our Year 12 students were treated to a pancake breakfast to celebrate entering their final 50 days at the College!

With Mock Examinations commencing on Monday of Week 8, it was also a chance to wish our Seniors all the very best as they head into an important few weeks.
The countdown is officially on. You’ve g-otter this, Year 12! 🦦💙

Congratulations to our Senior Play cast and director, Mrs Visser, who presented their dystopian satire New Babylon at All Saints Anglican School as part of the 2026 Gold Coast Secondary Schools Drama Festival.

With fast-paced dialogue and an unforgettable use of shadow play, the production had the audience in peals of unnerving laughter!

Congratulations to Arya, who received an Outstanding Supporting Actor Award for her role as Suki, and Peggy, who received an Outstanding Actor Award for her memorable portrayal of Olympia. 🎭

A wonderful achievement for the entire Senior Play creative team, made even more special by the many members of our College community who came along to support the production.

With this performance bringing the 2026 GCSSDF to a close, we thank all cast members, directors, families and staff for their incredible support throughout the past six weeks.

Book Character Day isn’t just for the students! 📚✨

Our staff certainly understood the assignment, bringing some much-loved characters to life and going all out for this year’s Book Week celebrations.

From creative costumes to impressive attention to detail, there were plenty of familiar faces (and a few that were a little harder to recognise!) around the College today.

A wonderful way to celebrate the joy of reading, storytelling and a little Book Week magic. 📖

📚 Book Week 2026 has begun!

Today marked the beginning of A Symphony of Stories at Somerset, with the Scholastic Book Fair opening its doors in the KIP. Our Junior School students enjoyed exploring shelves filled with new stories, favourite authors and plenty of exciting reads.

The Book Fair will continue through to Thursday 27 August, with every purchase helping to support our Junior Library collection, Mudgeeraba Special School and Room to Read.

Four Year 10 students recently had the opportunity to broaden their Global Outlook by taking part in an online debate with students from New Caledonia on the topic of mining. 🌏

Xanthe, Ailin, Emma and Annabel represented Somerset, exchanging ideas and perspectives with Year 11 and 12 students while developing their communication, critical-thinking and debating skills.

The experience provided a valuable opportunity to consider different perspectives on a global issue and connect with students beyond the College community.

Congratulations to Diella, Austin and Nathan on an incredible month of musical achievements! 🎻

Throughout July, the siblings competed across the Gold Coast Eisteddfod, Quota Beenleigh Eisteddfod, AUSTA Queensland String Concerto Championships and Redlands Eisteddfod, earning an impressive collection of awards across violin and cello events.

Diella was named Junior Championship Winner at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod, alongside multiple first and second-place finishes and a Highly Commended at the AUSTA Queensland String Concerto Championships. Impressively, she received a placing in all 13 sections she entered throughout the July eisteddfods.

Austin achieved Second Place in the Gold Coast Eisteddfod Junior Championship, as well as several podium finishes across solo and duet events, including performances alongside Diella.

Nathan also enjoyed a fantastic month, earning two First Place awards at the Quota Beenleigh Eisteddfod and podium finishes at both the Gold Coast and Redlands Eisteddfods.

A wonderful month of performances and achievements for Diella, Austin and Nathan. Congratulations! 👏
