Congratulations to UTS alumna Hannah Teresa on being named ELLE Next Gen's Fashion Designer of the Year 2026.

Presented by Swarovski, the ELLE Next Gen Awards celebrated Australia's emerging fashion talent in Sydney on 2 September.
As the creative director of Haluminous, Hannah creates what she describes as nocturnal resortwear. Following the debut of her sculptural Petal Nocturnal collection at Australian Fashion Week earlier this year, she's now preparing to launch her permanent jersey line, Second Skin.

Congratulations, Hannah, on this incredible achievement.

What if the skills we need to build more homes are already here?

A new UTS-led pilot is supporting refugees and migrants with existing construction and trades experience to build pathways into the Australian construction industry.

Developed in collaboration with industry, government, education and community partners, the Australian Workplace Readiness Program responds to two interconnected challenges: construction skills shortages and the underutilisation of skilled migrant talent.

Over three months, participants took part in training, mock interviews, site visits and industry engagement to build confidence, local knowledge and workplace readiness. The first 21 participants have now graduated from the pilot.

The pilot was led by Senior Lecturer in Construction Management Dr Suhair Zaid Alkilani and Distinguished Professor Martin Loosemore, demonstrating the value of cross-sector collaboration in developing practical and inclusive responses to complex workforce and housing challenges.

Changing careers can feel like a leap into the unknown. For Bella, returning to UTS to study a Master of Secondary Education gave her the confidence to take that leap - and discover a career she knows is right for her.

After completing a Bachelor of Business in Marketing at UTS in 2023, Bella decided to pursue teaching. Now in her final year, she has completed professional placements, travelled to South Korea as part of an international study experience and started working as a casual teacher alongside her studies.

“UTS helped me realise that I've found a career that's right for me. It's a career I'm certain about.”

For UTS Architecture graduates Laura and Wally Stanton of Stanton Architects, it’s about much more than designing beautiful spaces.
