Karen Newton Consulting (KNC) is a sole practitioner business, established in February of 2018 to provide mediation and facilitation services to the Greater Ipswich region.
These services include mediation in the following areas, including by not limited to:
Landlord/Tenant disputes
Partnership disputes
KNC also provide Facilitation services to organisations and groups where assistance is required in communicating effectively. The role of mediator and/or facilitator is to remain impartial to the issues and to not take one side over the other. This allows for a more open and robust discussion with a view to reaching the desired outcome. This is achieved through ensuring that all participants have the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way, and importantly, remain on topic.
Qualifications
Master in Business Administration from the University of Southern Queensland with a specialisation in Strategic Human Resource Management.
National Mediation accreditation from the Australian Mediation Association.
Justice of the Peace (Qualified) since 2006.
Over 30 years experience in senior administration roles, including over 20 of those years in law firms.
Experience
I have developed sound skills in communication and management through various roles in senior administration. My most recent role was that of Office Manager for a pro bono law firm where I successfully project managed the fit out and relocation to new premises, the continuous recruitment and management of volunteer law clerks and solicitor interns, and the ongoing general management of the office.
I have also worked in the electorate office of a State Member of Parliament (5 years) where I was responsible for the ongoing liaison between constituents and Ministerial offices. This role required tact and compassion, when often dealing with highly emotive issues. I was able to demonstrate a great deal of empathy for the constituents and even when the outcome was not in their favour, the constituents were satisfied that their concerns had been heard.
These are just two recent examples where I have demonstrated my ability to liaise with all walks of life, and am able to navigate the difficult world of communication and people management, essential to Mediation.
