Students in Physical Sciences are exploring physics in motion!
They have compared calculating the acceleration due to gravity from dropping a ball from a tall tower with using a pendulum. Students found it challenging to collect as accurate data as possible.

SRC Team Building at the Driving Range⛳

Our Newstead College SRC members recently enjoyed a fun team-building session at the driving range at the Country Club Casino. There were plenty of laughs, some creative golfing techniques on display, and great camaraderie throughout the afternoon.

While the longest drive record remains safely intact, everyone had a fantastic time getting involved, supporting one another, and strengthening connections outside the classroom.

Wound Dressing and Vital Signs Practice 🩺

Our students had a big practical week in our simulated health lab - first practising the Aseptic Non Touch Technique (ANTT) for wound dressing, then moving on to taking and documenting vital signs with our simulated patient.

ANTT helps keep wounds clean by avoiding contact with key parts and key sites, reducing the chance of germs entering the dressing field. Vital signs practice builds confidence in recognising what’s normal, what’s not, and how to record findings clearly.

Together, these skills form the foundation of safe, high quality care across future health careers. It is great to see students working with focus, teamwork, and growing confidence.

Our Contemporary Music and Songwriting students kicked off their first songwriting task with an awesome lyric writing workshop on Monday, thanks to The Push and Music Tasmania.

Kiz and Maddy led students through song prompts, mind mapping ideas, rhyme schemes, and ways to build contrast in their writing. It was a great session that gave everyone a strong starting point for creating their own songs.

Big thanks to The Push for supporting our students and sharing their industry knowledge. We are looking forward to hearing what comes next.🎤

🍔🍕 Pop-Up Lunches a Huge Hit! 🍟🥪

This term, our Certificate II in Cookery students have been honing their skills in the kitchen, preparing, cooking, and serving delicious take-away lunches for the Newstead College community and visiting families.

From tasty burgers and fish & chips to steak sandwiches, soup with house-made bread rolls, and Margherita pizzas, the team has been serving up quality meals and gaining valuable real-world hospitality experience along the way. 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

The feedback from customers has been fantastic:

Workplace Experiences in Health

Our VET Health students spent the day exploring real health workplaces, visiting The Manor and Launceston Pathology. They toured the facilities, met staff, and heard directly from clinical and scientific teams about their roles, daily tasks, and how each area contributes to the wider healthcare system.

A highlight at The Manor was meeting some non-human residents too - a friendly dog and a talking bird who loves to say “hello”.

Such a valuable experience for students to see the diversity of health careers and the people (and animals) who make these places feel like a community.
