Living and studying in a new country is a great opportunity to practise your English, meet new people and build your confidence. The Study Melbourne Hub is a free space designed to support international students across Victoria. 💙

There are plenty of ways the Hub can help you during your time in Melbourne:

🗣️ Practise your English – Join activities and events where you can meet other international students and practise communicating in a friendly, real-world environment.

💼 Get ready for work – Access free employment support including help with resumes, cover letters, interviews and finding work in Australia. The Work Ready Program also offers employment consultations from Monday to Friday, 1:00pm – 4:15pm.

📚 Join free workshops and events – Study Melbourne regularly hosts workshops, networking events, social activities and practical sessions covering topics such as careers, employment and life in Australia.

💻 Find a place to study – Need somewhere outside of class to practise English, complete your homework or work on an assignment? The Hub offers free study spaces and Wi-Fi, plus complimentary tea, coffee and snacks. ☕️

🤝 Get support when you need it – Students can also access free and confidential support for issues involving accommodation, employment, finances, wellbeing, legal matters and education.

Studying English isn't just about what happens in the classroom. Explore Melbourne, meet new people and take advantage of the support available to you! 🌏✨

🚶‍♀️ Our students recently took their English learning beyond the classroom with a walking excursion through some of Melbourne’s most iconic locations, discovering the stories, culture and history hidden around the city. 🇦🇺✨

📮 One of the first stops was Postal Lane, which runs alongside Melbourne’s historic former General Post Office, now home to H&M. Students learnt about the building’s past as the centre of Melbourne’s postal service and even discovered the meaning behind the expression “going postal" which is a phrase used to describe someone becoming crazy!

🎨 The group then made their way to Young & Jackson, one of Melbourne’s best-known historic pubs, located opposite Flinders Street Station. Here, students were introduced to one of the city’s most famous paintings called Chloé. Painted by French artist Jules Joseph Lefebvre in 1875, Chloé has been displayed at Young & Jackson for more than a century and has become a Melbourne cultural icon recognised by generations of locals.

🌿 The excursion continued to the Shrine of Remembrance, where students explored one of Victoria’s most significant landmarks. Originally built to honour Victorians who served in the First World War, the Shrine now commemorates Australians who have served in wars and peacekeeping operations throughout the country’s history.

📚 From learning local expressions to discovering famous artworks and important historical landmarks, the excursion gave students another opportunity to practise English while experiencing the stories that have shaped Melbourne. 💬❤️

Our students recently swapped the classroom for one of Melbourne’s most historic landmarks the Old Treasury Building! 🇦🇺

Walking through the exhibitions, students discovered what life was like in Melbourne during the exciting days of the Victorian Gold Rush. From stories of gold discoveries and early Melbourne to seeing the building’s original underground vaults, there was plenty to explore and talk about. ✨

Excursions are also a great opportunity to put English into practice. Students can learn new vocabulary, read information in English, ask questions and have conversations with their classmates while experiencing the city around them. 🗣️📚

It was a fun day exploring another side of Melbourne and learning more about the history that helped shape the city we know today.

At City Language Centre, Melbourne itself becomes part of the classroom! 🌏💙

🧭 Our students set off on an exciting adventure through Melbourne's iconic hidden laneways, discovering vibrant street art and colourful graffiti that brings the city to life. Our students explored AC/DC lane, showcasing the infamous 1973 Australian rock band. 👨‍🎤

The journey continued at the Ian Potter Gallery in Federation Square, where they explored a diverse collection of Australian art and gained a deeper appreciation for both Indigenous and contemporary artists. They learnt that Aboriginal art was created by drawing on rock walls and bark using raw materials like ochre clays. They discovered how the wool industry played a major role in Australia's economy during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 🐑

At City Language Centre, learning English goes beyond the classroom. Our excursions give students the opportunity to experience Australian culture, build confidence, and create unforgettable memories while practising their English in real-life settings. 🇦🇺✨
