👠 Research making headlines!

Our study on women’s footwear sizing has been featured in The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and Channel 7 News.

The research highlights the limitations of footwear sizing systems that focus primarily on foot length while often overlooking foot width, helping explain why many consumers struggle to find well-fitting shoes.

It’s wonderful to see research from RMIT Fashion & Textiles reaching audiences beyond academia and generating discussion about an issue that affects so many people.

Congratulations to lead author Barbara Pallaspuro and co-authors Saniyat Islam and Carol Tan.

Thank you to Liam Mannix for the excellent feature, Simon Schluter for the gorgeous photography, Aeden Ratcliffe and Seamus Daniel from the RMIT University R&I media team, and Tim McLachlan (Channel 7) for helping bring the research to a wider audience.

The Hanger was a full house. Authors, students, alumni, industry leaders, colleagues, family, all in one room to celebrate something our program has been building toward for a long time.

A few things that made it unforgettable 👇

🎓 One of our chapter authors is a MoFE graduate. Nish Mohil came to RMIT as an international student, graduated in 2016, and we invited her back to write our e-commerce chapter, now Global E-Commerce Manager at Elk Clothing.

🎨 Illustrations in the book were created by Masters grad turned book illustrator.

💍 started as a student’s feasibility analysis assignment in our Fashion Entrepreneurship class. It’s now a real, thriving brand. Founder Amy joined us on the industry panel to tell her story.

🎤 Our industry panel did not hold back. Founders from industry panel:

.cc shared the real, unfiltered version of building a fashion business, the wins, the failures, and everything in between.

We gave every author 90 seconds and no slides. Some interpreted that generously 😅

Huge thanks to everyone who made this night possible 🙏

What an amazing experience for our students to learn outside the classroom during an exclusive, private walkthrough of the stunning CHANEL Métiers d’art 2026 Collection at the Lyon Housemuseum in Kew.

Across Thursday and Friday mornings, our students were fully immersed in a sensory experience, touching and feeling the garments to understand the exceptional craftsmanship of the ateliers. Hearing directly from the CHANEL staff provided invaluable industry insights that have undoubtedly inspired our next generation of fashion innovators. 🏛️✨

This exhibition gave our students a brilliant, firsthand look at how high-level creative vision intersects with the business of luxury. The collection marks a significant moment in fashion history as designer Matthieu Blazy’s debut Métiers d’art collection; inspired by singular personalities crossing paths in the New York subway, it beautifully bridges the gap where elevated craft meets pop culture through a filmic lens. 🖤🗽

Thank you for the most amazing experience 🖤🤍

🎉 Cultural Day Highlights! 🌍✨

We wrapped up the semester with a vibrant Cultural Day, celebrating the diversity, creativity, and community within our cohort.

Students brought their heritage to life through traditional attire and a delicious spread of dishes from around the world 💃🍱🕌🪔🥟🍛

We also concluded our final Guest Speaker Series with Deon, serial entrepreneur and founder of MOR Cosmetics, Drumplings, and the newly launched .deli 🥪

His message was clear and powerful: build something repeatable, scalable, and truly outstanding. Don’t be afraid of failure, what matters is getting back up and starting again. Success takes resilience, hard work, and yes… a lot less sleep than you might expect.

A meaningful way to close the semester, celebrating culture, connection, and real-world entrepreneurial insights ❤️

An extraordinary, full-circle masterclass at the head office! 🌟

In a rare privilege, five members of their leadership and creative teams spent the afternoon sharing their industry grit and expertise with our Master of Fashion (Entrepreneurship) students.

This visit was a special full-circle moment for Ocean (MoFE Class of 2024). After attending this exact student excursion in her final semester, Ocean joined the company as a Fashion Designer in 2025. She spoke to current students about her transition from the classroom to managing sourcing, negotiation, and design for a global brand. ✨

Hosted by Sales & Marketing Manager Neomi, the session provided a deep dive into the “Unreal Fur Triangle,” where founder Amir applies the Aristotelian pillars of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos to the fashion business.

From Gilat’s inspiring creative vision as Creative Director to Grace’s sharp insights into PR and influencer marketing, it was an honest, generous, and deeply impactful look at what it takes to succeed.

We are so incredibly proud to see our alumni like Ocean thriving, and we are deeply grateful to the entire Unreal Fur team for investing so beautifully in the future generation of fashion entrepreneurs. 🤍

From singing opera in MoFE classes to becoming Dr. Liu! 🎓✨

Huge congratulations to Tong Liu (Tripp) on his official graduation! Tripp’s journey is a true RMIT success story. He first joined us as a Master of Fashion Entrepreneurship (MoFE) student before taking the leap into a PhD.

During his doctoral studies, Tripp didn’t just focus on his thesis, “Virtual Consumption in Luxury Fashion Brands”; he also published two journal papers, with a third currently under review! 📝

We are so proud to see him transition from a MoFE student to a PhD graduate, and now to a colleague teaching the next generation in our Bachelor of Fashion Enterprise program. Tripp also marks a special milestone for his supervisors, being Carol’s 8th PhD completion! 🥂

Congratulations, Dr. Liu! We can’t wait to see your continued impact on the future of fashion entrepreneurship.

Is your activewear truly “clean”? 🧴

Most of us never noticed the term “PFAS-free” on a clothing tag until recently. But as the fashion industry faces a greenwashing crisis, these words are becoming a critical part of the conversation.

In our latest piece for .aunz, Saniyat and I dive into the gap between fashion marketing and real accountability.

The scale of the problem is massive. Earlier this year, a Greenpeace investigation into retailers like SHEIN found “forever chemicals” (PFAS) at levels 3,000 times higher than what is considered safe in Europe.

While countries like France are moving toward mandatory bans, Australia still relies on voluntary promises. This creates a “labeling loophole” where brands can sell a wellness image that doesn’t always match the reality of the fabric.

The good news? Industry leaders like Uniqlo, Patagonia, and Keen have already proven that high-performance gear does NOT need these chemicals.

True sustainability isn’t about better marketing. It’s about demanding the transparency that only real regulation can provide.

Starting a brand: From 0 to 1” 🚀

Last week, we were joined by Rex Zhang, co-founder of , for a deep dive into the founder mindset. It’s rare to get such an honest look at what it actually takes to disrupt the fashion industry, from data-driven decision-making to the sheer resilience required to “never give up.”

For our students, hearing these real-world insights from the person behind one of Australia’s most innovative textile brands is a game-changer. It’s these raw, honest conversations that truly prepare them for the evolving landscape of fashion business.

Huge thanks to Rex for sharing your journey and wisdom with us! 🧵✨

Yesterday, our students were at the NGV for a special screening of Couture by Alice Winocour. While the film follows a fictional journey through Paris Fashion Week, it was filmed with exclusive access inside the private Haute Couture salons and ateliers of CHANEL.

For our students, it was a rare chance to see the real-life energy of 31 Rue Cambon on the big screen, from the legendary staircase to the work of the flou and tailleur workshops.

This is a reminder of the artistry and heritage that drive the global fashion industry. Proud to provide these “insider” industry moments for our creative cohort! 🧵🎥

Thank you CHANEL for inviting us 🖤 Loved the macaron treats too!
