Make a Place, Make a Time | Yin-Yu (Ingrid) Tseng
'Make a place, make a time' is a project that explores the ways in which objects can initiate a particularized experience of time. For this project, the making of kinetic jewellery objects is featured as key to narrate and re-narrate time’s passages, functioning as a form of time machine.
While the resulting works manifested as tangible objects— a kinetic robot or pieces of jewellery— their journeys involve an interplay of fiction, creating time-bending narrative of something nostalgic, but also invites imaginative/ speculative visions of the future.
YIN-YU (INGRID) TSENG is a Melbourne based maker who works mainly with metal. A principle theme in her work is the temporality of time, and she is also interested in the capacity of tactile experience in engagement with object to trigger imaginative response. She expresses both these elements by the use of basic gear mechanisms and movement. Yin-Yu is a RMIT PhD candidate, and current RMIT University staff member.
