We're recruiting! 🤩

NU Teams is the University professional engineering student teams organisation, with four competition-focussed design & build teams developing electric race cars, autonomous boats & drones, and rockets capable of flight to 10,000 ft!

If you're looking to explore the engineering profession outside of the classroom, develop real-world design & manufacturing skills, and make life-long friends within an industry-authentic engineering team environment, we want YOU!

As a NU Teams student engineer, you can look forward to:
- Learning new design & manufacturing skills through dedicated training sessions and mentoring by senior students.
- Using these skills to develop components and systems for our bespoke car/boat/rocket platforms.
- Forming strong and lasting friendships within and outside your team.
- Accessing the best facilities that the School of Engineering has to offer, including; workshops, study spaces, meeting rooms and more.
- Forming working relationships with academics and industry partners who are experts in their fields.
- A head start on industrial placement and engineering job opportunities through the NU Teams alumni network.
- Up to four weeks of industrial experience credit upon completion of your FYP.

If you want to learn and practice hands-on engineering, we want you!

If you are studying and UoN and are interested in remote aircraft, then welcome to NU UAV! 🤩

Here we are developing skills applicable for remote pilots and working to fly autonomously. At NU UAV you can be a part of a fun, amazing team of like-minded engineers as you work together to solve unique problems in the aerospace field 👏.

We are looking for anyone who is wanting to expand their skill set and happy to work in team-based environment. If this sounds like you, contact us at the Tunra Annex Building, Callaghan Campus or at https://nuteams.org/contact 😀.

To start the semester off, we have been working towards training our pilots! 💪

Our first step has been using a virtual remote-pilots trainer. We’re researching many different virtual trainers that specialise in multi-rotor drones and aeroplanes. NU Rocketry team member, Lachlan Warham has been working with, demonstrating to the team his remote-piloting skills on a Raptor 60 helicopter 🤩

2 weeks down and NU UAV is excited for what the rest of the semester brings! 🤩

This semester, NU UAV is focused on team and capability building 💪. With a variety of fixed-wing and rotorcraft, we’re going to hit the skies any chance we get - developing our skills and attaining our necessary certifications. NU UAV is hosting weekly micro-drone races for all to come and take part in (more info to come). We’ll also be taking our planes, the Grand Tundra, Skywalker X-8, and Extra 330LX, out for monthly flights ✨

Are you a final year student interested in completing an FYP project with NU Teams? ✨

We have a variety of engaging and challenging projects available for FYP students which will prepare you with industry and work relevant experiences. These team-based projects will see a successful applicant joining one of our teams: Racing, Rocketry, Marine or UAV. 🙏

These projects are open to MECH, MCHA and AERO students enrolled in FYP in Semester 1 of 2022. 🤩

We are super excited for the arrival of two new aircraft at the workshop 🤩! Both the Avios Extra 330LX and the Avios Grand Tundra will be used by the UAV team:

- for manual flying practice,
- to take autonomous flights with our flight computer that has FPV camera capabilities,
- to analyse the design and components of these aircraft via system-identification to recreate a mathematical model, and,
- to map their geometry in order to recreate scale down models for wind tunnel testing.

We may even modify these aircraft in the future to have VTOL (vertical lift and take off) capabilities! 😮

This is exciting stuff for us. Stay tuned to see the projects we undertake using these aircraft 😊

⭐ Check this out! ⭐

This past semester, the team has been developing a flight simulator for general aviation aircraft, all with the help of our course work at the University of Newcastle.

Here we've prepared a number of manoeuvres that our simulator can perform, the one shown being a 3g loop ✈.

With this, we are now re-appropriating it for smaller UAV systems to extend the scope of the model and develop a control system.

The next step is to re appropriate for smaller UAV systems, extend the scope of model and develop a control system. ☺
