A night to celebrate colour, creativity and emerging talent.

Last night our Founder and Director, Amanda Grace, attended the 2026 Dulux Colour Awards to celebrate finalist Harley Wallace. Harley, now an alum of our Advanced Diploma of Interior Design, was recognised for her café concept developed during her studies, using colour with intention to shape atmosphere, influence experience and tell a story within the space.

For interior designers, colour specification is one of the most powerful and refined skills they develop. For 40 years, the Dulux Colour Awards have recognised this expertise, championing projects that push boundaries and help shape design culture across the industry.

We are so proud to see Harley’s work recognised on this stage.

Claudia Lambert trained as a psychologist, built a career, did the masters. Ticked every box.

But something kept pulling at her. The way a room could make you feel. The way light, texture and space could shift your whole mood and the joy she got from creating beautiful spaces.

So she made the leap to study at SDS and today Claudia is thriving in her own interiors business, creating spaces that stop you in your tracks. That shift started with a decision to back herself.

Sound familiar? Our July intake is open and your next chapter is waiting.

Starting with conceptual ideas on paper and evolving through plans, a model, and refined renders, the Diploma of Interior Design pop up cafe project really comes to life through process.

Opal Lin carefully crafted her 3D model, translating her concept into something you can almost step into. You can see how each decision from spatial layout to material choice has been tested and resolved along the way, culminating in polished, high end renders.

It's a good reminder of how ideas grow, shift and strengthen when they're explored from every angle.

The best educators don’t just teach, they play too. Inspired by their students’ colour hunting last week, some of our educators hit the streets to find their own stories.

Eyes on our alumni / This beautiful bathroom designed by Angela Books was recently featured in House & Garden magazine, and we love what she wrote on her Instagram post. Her story reflects one we often see, where embracing creativity leads to a bold and rewarding career change. This is a moment well worth celebrating, congrats, Angela

Here's what Angela said:

I’m not usually someone who feels comfortable drawing attention to myself but…This month, my work was published for the first time - in House & Garden. Two pages of a bathroom I designed - a small feature, on paper.

But not small to me.

Before design, there was another life - a career in TV production, long days working behind the scenes, building a career I chose to step away from when I became a mother, when my family needed me.

And then, I started again - on my own.

Design, as a solo practice, can feel like moving through mud. No structure. No momentum but the one you create. Just you - showing up everyday, again and again, without any real proof that it will lead somewhere.

So this felt like a moment worth acknowledging. Not because it’s the pinnacle. But because it’s a marker - of staying with something long enough to see it begin to take shape.

A reminder to keep going - without comparison, without rushing it, just moving forward. That’s enough.

We loved seeing some of our students taking up the colour hunting challenge and bringing Sydney to life through their own lens.

Nina Veryinis designed a ski-in, ski-out resort as part of a self-directed Advanced Diploma major project, inspired by a lifelong connection to skiing that began in early childhood.

Nina says her aim was "to create a luxurious ski resort that harmonises with the mountain, blending seamlessly into the landscape through bioreceptive materials and thoughtful design, while placing guest wellness at the heart of the experience."

Her concept envisions a calm, adults-only retreat where guests can truly unwind, blending skiing with wellness, dining, and social spaces in a seamless and considered way.

The layout of the resort follows the natural terrain, mimicking the natural movement of a skier as they travel down the mountain slopes. Nina's clever design concept ensures views, direct sun, and a sense of intimate connection to the landscape.
