CLWA recently hosted a McCusker Centre for Citizenship at UWA intern for 100 hours to work with our Policy and Advocacy Team.
It was a fantastic opportunity to support a student to gain practical experience within the community legal sector, while also contributing meaningfully to important advocacy and reform work in Western Australia. Programs like this provide valuable opportunities for students to build their skills, deepen their understanding of social justice issues and see firsthand the impact of community sector work.
A huge thank you to Abuzar for his contribution during his internship with our team. Throughout his placement, Abuzar brought thoughtfulness, strong research and Canva skills, and a genuine commitment to social justice to his work. He supported our WA for a Human Rights Act and Drivers Licence Reform campaigns, contributing to policy and advocacy initiatives focused on fairness, dignity and access to justice across Western Australia.
We greatly appreciated Abuzar’s curiosity, professionalism and collaborative approach, and we encourage other organisations to consider hosting interns through programs such as the McCusker Centre. Creating opportunities for students to engage with real-world social issues helps build a stronger, more informed and community-minded future workforce.
We wish Abuzar all the very best for the future and look forward to seeing where his career takes him next.
