We warmly congratulate Professor Hayden Ramsay, President of the Institute, who has been awarded the Knighthood of St Gregory the Great.
The honour is one of the highest Papal distinctions bestowed on lay people, recognising Professor Ramsay’s longstanding service to the Church, his contribution to Catholic education and philosophical thought, and his dedication to helping people grow in their knowledge and love of the faith.
The Knighthood is granted to individuals who have demonstrated exemplary personal character, commitment to the Church, and outstanding leadership in their professional and public life.
In reflecting on the honour, Professor Ramsay expressed gratitude to those who have supported his vocation in education and service:
“This was a complete surprise, and I would say quite undeserved, though very graciously bestowed by the Church. It makes me think very fondly of my own teachers, generations of students and of friendships with so many academics whose work for the Catholic tradition of thought and scholarship I admire.”
The Catholic Institute of Sydney and The Catholic Weekly join in celebrating this moment of joy and thanksgiving for Professor Ramsay and his family. His leadership continues to inspire our mission to integrate faith, reason, and academic excellence in service of the Church and society.
Congratulations, Professor Ramsay, on this richly deserved honour.
