Dolly Parton's Imagination Library sends a free book to a child's home every month, from birth to age five. It has touched the lives of 151,000 children in Australia.

Macquarie's Dr Claire Galea found that after just 10 books, kids were four times more likely to show stronger literacy skills and 15 times more likely to join in during shared reading.

The research began in Tamworth, Nashville's sister city and Australia's country music capital, where Dolly last toured in 2014. By 2019 nearly every child born there was enrolled.

"Together we can inspire Australia's children to dream more, learn more, care more, and be more," Dolly said at the Tamworth launch.

Over the weekend, firefighters from across New South Wales came together with family, friends and community to raise funds for the Macquarie University Motor Neurone Disease Research Centre 👏

They took on the 951 steps at Furber Steps in the Blue Mountains, raising over $290,000 to support critical MND research. Our very own Professor Dominic Rowe took part, tackling as many laps as he could in 24 hours.

Congratulations to the Macquarie University Business School team who won the Employability Award at the The Australian Financial Review Higher Education Awards last night 👏

The team were recognised for creating future-smart graduates because of their work to transform the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business into a sector-leading employability model.

These commerce and business courses focus on purposeful skill growth and personal development from day one to ensure students are ready to make an impact as soon as they graduate or often even before graduation.

Associate Professor Prashan Karunaratne and Associate Professor Murray Taylor attended the awards ceremony along with a delegation from the university. They celebrated this fantastic achievement on behalf of the project leadership team: Associate Professor Yimin Stephanie Huang, Associate Professor Jennifer Ruskin and Sandra Harrison.

We're welcoming world-leading tuberculosis expert Professor Greg Fox as Macquarie University's new Dean of Medicine 👏

A trained doctor and respiratory physician, Professor Fox has more than two decades of experience in frontline healthcare, medical education and clinical research, and has led major clinical trials focused on the detection, treatment and prevention of TB. He has worked with organisations including the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"I'm passionate about ensuring that the benefits of medical research and innovation reach the people and communities who need them most," he says.

Professor Fox starts on 1 February 2027. Join us in giving him a warm welcome to the Macquarie community!

The Assembly wins Best Factual or Documentary Program at the 2026 Logies.

Accepting the award, Leigh Sales said: "Thank you to the celebrities who trust us and come in and do a two-hour interview where anything can be asked of them, and also to the public who have just gotten so behind this show. People stop me all the time to talk about it and say how much they appreciate the representation of the autistic community."

Backstage, Leigh admitted the show's student journalists ask questions she "doesn't have the guts to ask herself." That courage is what makes The Assembly what it is.

The show is a collaboration between the ABC, Helium, Aspect and Macquarie University, whose journalism students and teachers help bring it to life.

Congratulations to the cast, crew, student journalists and everyone involved in the making of this program!
