CALLING AUSTRALIAN ACUTE INPATIENT MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIANS

Mental health clinicians (Registered Nurses, Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Doctors) are invited to take part in research exploring clinicians' experiences, perspectives and practices of preventing su***de during the first week of people admitted to acute inpatient mental health units.

Your insights could support future su***de prevention and inpatient mental health care practices.

The interview will take place either over Teams or in person on a Western Sydney University campus and will take 45–60 minutes. All enquiries are confidential.

Be part of research that centres on the perspectives and experiences of clinicians working in acute mental health inpatient services.

Western Sydney University and the Australian Centre for Integration of Oral Health (ACIOH) invite participants to take part in a doctoral research study on oral health experiences and support strategies.

Your voice can help improve future services for refugee communities.

Participation involves a confidential one-on-one interview lasting approximately 20–30 minutes, conducted in person, via Zoom, or by telephone.

Participants will be reimbursed for their time and involvement.

Congratulations to Aileen Pamonag Lane on receiving a commendation award at the 6th International Filipino Nursing Symposium for the publication:

“Developing Empathy and Motivation through an Arts-Based Project: A Mixed Methods Study on Addressing Gaps in Nursing Education for Suicide,” published in the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing in 2025.

This recognition highlights the impact of the Eric Woo Project and the collaborative contributions of colleagues across the Western Sydney University School of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as project partners.

Congratulations to all involved in this important and impactful work.

Tuesday May 5th the WSU SoNM Midwifery team celebrated International Day of the Midwife (IDM) with our first-year students (not all pictured).
The theme for this year is "One Million More Midwives" highlighting the global shortage of nearly one million midwives and the need for workforce investment to improve maternal and neonatal health.

The IDM celebration included a delicious lunch provided by staff and the chance to mingle and chat about all thing’s midwifery.

Games included "Pin the Pinard" and "Speed Baby Wrapping".

In the month of May, we are hosting a raffle to raise money for the Rhodanthe Lipsett Indigenous Midwifery Charitable Trust who provide support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people training to be midwives.

Hope everyone had a happy IDM 2026.

We were proud to celebrate International Nurses Day at our Campbelltown Campus alongside our dedicated nursing students.

The event recognised the important role nurses play in delivering compassionate, evidence-based care and advocating for the health and well-being of communities across diverse settings.

It was inspiring to see students and staff come together to reflect on resilience, cultural safety, and the values that shape the nursing profession. Their passion and commitment highlight the importance of developing not only clinical capability but also empathy, inclusivity, and professional identity.

As educators, we are proud to support the next generation of nurses as they prepare to make a meaningful impact in healthcare and within their communities.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the celebration such a memorable occasion.
