A wonderful evening at the AAIA with Dr Vassilis Adrahtas, whose thought-provoking presentation on “Myths and Dreamings, Wisdom and Initiation” invited us to see Hellenic and Indigenous Australian traditions from a fresh and deeply reflective perspective. The lecture sparked a provocative and engaging discussion, reminding us of the power of dialogue across cultures, philosophies, and ways of understanding the world.

Thank you to Dr Susan Lupack who presented a wonderful seminar last Thursday evening detailing the last four year of work at the Perachora Peninsula Archaeological Project using intensive surface survey, photogrammetric visualizations and Lidar, and finding that the site extended further than was thought by either of the past excavators. Presented by the NSW Friends of the AAIA and introduced by their new President Agnes Levine.

The Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens was delighted to host its Annual Report last Thursday, 14 May 2026, at the Danish Institute in Athens.
The evening began with Professor Tamar Hodos presenting “The Activities of the Institute in 2025”, highlighting another exciting and productive year for the AAIA. This was followed by a fascinating lecture by Associate Professor Lesley Beaumont on The Zagora Archaeological Project: Research Results and Questions in the 21st Century. Her talk brilliantly demonstrated the importance of Zagora for our understanding of the Early Iron Age and the ways in which the site continues to challenge established chronological frameworks.
We were especially honoured to have Her Excellency Alison Duncan, Australian Embassy, Greece, deliver the vote of thanks.
The evening concluded with a wonderful reception hosted by the Athens Friends of the AAIA, with delicious food and Australian wine, providing a lovely opportunity for colleagues and friends to continue discussions in a warm and convivial atmosphere.
Our sincere thanks go to the Danish Institute in Athens for so generously hosting the event, and to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success.
