🤖❄️ Do you want to build a snowman?
When the Townsville Choral Society came to the JCU Roboclub with a very specific request ahead of their production of Frozen - “Do you want to build a snowman?” - our engineering students were up for the challenge!
Over several weeks, the team brought Olaf to life using multiple 3D-printed sections that connect magnetically and are controlled by several Arduino boards communicating via Bluetooth. The result? An Olaf who could move his arms, look around and even move across the stage! ⛄️
Once he was ready, it was time to let it go and hand him over to the cast. Olaf took to the stage at the Townsville Civic Theatre during the musical’s run from 6–16 August, with his creators proudly watching from the audience. 👏
A fantastic example of how engineering skills can be used to turn creative ideas into something very real (and very cool!).
