✨ Successfully concluded "Technology & Innovation in Industry" at the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI), Deakin University, Waurn Ponds, hosted by the Geelong Regional Engineers Group (GREG) in collaboration with the Deakin IEEE Student Branch.

The event brought together students, researchers, academics, and industry professionals for an engaging afternoon focused on emerging technologies, intelligent systems, and real-world engineering innovation.

🔹 The session began with insightful technical presentations, including:
• "User Adoption of Augmented Reality Technologies in Industrial Maintenance" by Igor Lima Dourado, highlighting how AR technologies can support human-centred maintenance systems and empower the future industrial workforce.

• "Environment & Uncertainty-Aware Robust Controller for Varying Speed Autonomous Ground Vehicles" by Md Abdur Rahim, presenting advanced research on robust control strategies for safer and more reliable autonomous driving systems under varying environmental and operational conditions.

🔹 Participants also enjoyed an exclusive guided tour of IISRI, one of Australia’s leading intelligent systems research facilities, showcasing cutting-edge research and innovation across aerospace, automotive, defence, robotics, and health sectors.

🔹 The event concluded with interactive discussions, networking, and refreshments, creating valuable opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry.

Deakin University IEEE Student Branch proudly hosted and collaborated with students and academics from University of Malaya during their visit to Deakin University 🇦🇺🤝🇲🇾

The day began bright and early with the group departing from Southern Cross Station at 8:10am, travelling to Waurn Ponds and arriving at Deakin University around 9:50am, where they were warmly welcomed. This was followed by a short campus tour leading into the official program.

The morning sessions commenced with a Welcome Ceremony introducing the Deakin IEEE Student Branch and the School of Engineering, followed by an engaging seminar by Prof. Shady Mohamed on Signals and Systems. Participants then attended an insightful talk by Dr. Matt Jennings on *“The Solar Car Challenge: Prototype vs Production Challenges,”* highlighting real-world engineering innovation.

At the same time, a collaborative meeting was held between representatives from both institutions, including A/Prof Ir Ts Dr Chuah Joon Huang and Deakin School of Engineering leadership, to explore future academic and research partnerships.

The program continued with an informative postgraduate session and Q&A led by Dr. Ameen Gargoon and A/Prof Yanan Wang, providing valuable guidance on higher studies and research opportunities at Deakin.

Following this, participants enjoyed lunch and networking at the CADET foyer, fostering meaningful connections between students, academics, and professionals. The afternoon featured guided tours of Deakin’s advanced facilities, including the Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering Training (CADET), High Voltage Lab, 3D Printing Labs, and the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI), offering hands-on exposure to cutting-edge technologies and research environments.

The visit concluded with a return journey in the late afternoon, marking the end of a highly productive and memorable day.

A truly enriching experience of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and cultural exchange—captured in this proud group photo with our flags held high, symbolising unity, diversity, and a shared vision for the future.

IEEE SB Deakin University AGM 2026–2027

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the IEEE Student Branch Deakin University Annual General Meeting (AGM). With the conclusion of the meeting, the new committee for the 2026–2027 tenure has officially taken over the leadership of the Student Branch.

We extend our sincere congratulations to the newly elected team and wish them all the best in continuing the branch’s activities, events, and professional initiatives. We are confident that the new committee will further strengthen collaboration, innovation, and engagement within the IEEE community at Deakin University.

Today, our Chair , Nazmus Sakib, delivered a research seminar at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), Bangladesh, titled: “Uncertainty-Aware AI for Renewable Energy Forecasting and My PhD Journey.”

In addition to discussing his research on uncertainty-aware AI for renewable energy systems, the session also highlighted the role of IEEE Asia-Pacific Region (Region 10) and the IEEE Victorian Section, Australia, in supporting young professionals and early-career researchers through technical activities, conferences, industry engagement, and leadership development opportunities.

The talk emphasized how IEEE serves as a global platform that connects students, researchers, and industry across countries, enabling collaboration and professional growth.

This engagement reflects IEEE Deakin Student Branch’s commitment to promoting international academic collaboration, leadership, and research-driven innovation.

The Deakin University IEEE Student Branch was thrilled to host an inspiring expert talk on “Australia’s Next Generation Modelling Tool for Sustainable Food and Land Systems” by Dr. Jinzhu Wang, Associate Research Fellow at the Planet-A Group, Deakin University.

Held on Wednesday, 5th November 2025, at the Institute of Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI), this session offered deep insights into how advanced land-use models, climate targets, and sustainable strategies are shaping the future of Australia’s agricultural and environmental systems.

A huge thank you to Dr. Wang for the engaging presentation and to everyone who joined us and contributed to the discussion! Your curiosity and questions made the session truly interactive and impactful.
