URGENT HELP REQUIRED – DONATIONS NEEDED – PLEASE SHARE

We need your urgent help tonight. It’s for something special. It really is and we need you all to chip in to make it happen.

River turtles can succumb to different threats at specific stages of their life. For the past 20 years, We have enacted successful conservation measures to increase survival of egg/hatchling stage of the endangered Mary River turtle. However these successes hasn't led to an increase in the population.

The focus is now on addressing the next threat, ie to juvenile Mary River turtles. We’re partnering with researchers from Charles Darwin University to investigate their survivorship in the wild.

Acoustic tags allow the detection and movement of animals.

Excitingly by tracking the movements of juvenile turtles over time, we will understand their behaviour and survivorship. Results of these investigations will guide the next stage of reducing the threats to juvenile Mary River turtles. It is just so important we conduct this research. For the turtles. To save lives.

We need to raise at least $8,500. This will purchase 30 acoustic tags (approx $280 each) which will be attached to 30 juvenile Mary River turtles. The greater the number of turtles that are tagged, the more robust are the results.

We'd like to welcome the Ph.D. candidate Razib Ahmed, who will be undertaking his research into the use of autonomous aircraft to better understand the factors responsible for heat islands in the Darwin urban landscape. The project will monitor innovative urban designs as a component of the Darwin Living Lab – a 10-year program aiming to cool the ambient temperature of the Darwin CBD. Welcome, Razib!
