Poultry Farmer Training in Biosecurity and ProductionWithin an Evaluation Framework in Bangladesh

This research provides strong empirical evidence on how a structured, evaluation-based training programme can strengthen small- and medium-scale poultry farming in Bangladesh. Conducted across 12 upazilas with 183 broiler and Sonali farmers, the study applied pre- and post-training KAP assessments within the Kirkpatrick evaluation framework to rigorously measure learning outcomes.
The findings reveal significant improvements in farmers’ knowledge and awareness related to day-old chick (DOC) quality assessment, brooding management, vaccination practices, farm biosecurity, disease prevention, and the rational use of antibiotics. Importantly, the training markedly increased understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and clarified the true role of antibiotics—highlighting how misuse in poultry farming directly threatens animal health, human health, and environmental sustainability.
By integrating veterinarians, medical professionals, and interactive pedagogical approaches, the programme reinforced the One Health concept, emphasizing farmers’ critical role in safeguarding public health while maintaining profitable production. While the results confirm that a single intervention can substantially enhance knowledge and attitudes, the study also underscores that sustained behavioural change requires continuous engagement, follow-up communication, and support systems.
Overall, this work demonstrates how science-driven, context-specific training can contribute to safer, more productive, and more sustainable poultry production systems—supporting livelihoods while addressing global challenges such as AMR and zoonotic disease risks.
