“Workshop on Trial Tactics & Advocacy 2026”
The Department of Law of Bangladesh Army International University of Science and Technology (BAIUST) in collaboration with the BAIUST Law Club, successfully organized a workshop titled “Workshop on Trial Tactics & Advocacy 2026.” The event was held on 07 May 2026 at the university conference room, where approximately 150 students from the Law Department participated.
The Chief Guest of the program was the Acting Vice Chancellor and Treasurer of the University, Colonel Mohammad Iftekharul Haque, psc (Retd.). The Resource Person for the workshop was Mohammad Rokon Uddin Kabir, District and Sessions Judge, Family Appellate Court-2, Dhaka.
The session was chaired by Dr. Md. Nayem Alimul Hyder, Head of the Department of Law and Advisor of the Law Club. The program was coordinated by Assistant Professor Dipannita Kundu Rumki, Co Advisor of the Law Club. The overall supervision was carried out by Lecturer Lamia Dilshad Waziha and Saimur Rahman.
In her welcome speech, Assistant Professor Dipannita Kundu Rumki stated that in today’s competitive legal profession, theoretical knowledge alone is not sufficient; rather, practical skills and courtroom experience are essential. She emphasized that such workshops would enhance students’ confidence and play a vital role in their future professional careers.
In his address as Chief Guest, Colonel Mohammad Iftekharul Haque, psc (Retd.), encouraged students to pursue skill-based education. He stated that to become a successful lawyer in the modern era, one must possess leadership qualities, presentation skills, analytical thinking, and strong ethical values. He appreciated the initiative of the Law Department and urged students to focus more on practical learning.
In line with contemporary professional needs, the workshop thoroughly covered key aspects of criminal litigation from start to finish. Important procedural elements under the Code of Criminal Procedure were discussed in detail, including FIR, GD (General Diary), GR Case, CR Case, and various stages of trial in Magistrate and Sessions Courts. These stages included opening statements, framing of charges, plea and conviction, examination and cross-examination of witnesses, sentencing, and acquittal procedures.
To make the workshop more engaging and practical, students participated in simulated trial sessions representing various stages of court proceedings. This provided them with firsthand exposure to real courtroom practice, enhancing their understanding and increasing their interest in the legal profession.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Md. Nayem Alimul Hyder stated that the Department will continue organizing such training-oriented workshops in the future to enhance students’ skills and practical knowledge. He emphasized the importance of regular practice, research, and ethical learning in legal education. He also thanked all concerned for the successful ex*****on of the workshop.
Faculty members of the Law Department presented a token of appreciation to the Resource Person, District and Sessions Judge Rokon Uddin Kabir. The program concluded with a group photo session at the university plaza involving students, teachers, and guests in a joyful atmosphere.
Organizers expressed optimism that this workshop will help students become better prepared for their future professional careers. The event was efficiently conducted by Masuma Jahan, while members of the Law Club Executive Committee and several students of the Law Department served as volunteers.
