North South University (NSU) celebrated spring festival 1432 with vibrant colors, cultural performances, and enthusiastic participation from students and faculty, transforming the campus into a lively hub of Bengali heritage on Tuesday (February 17).

Organized by the university’s cultural organization club, the day-long Falgun celebration began in the morning as students decorated the campus with handmade festoons, banners, and colorful displays. Thousands of students dressed in bright spring attire welcomed the season with flowers, music, and joyful energy.

The event was attended by NSU Board of Trustees Chairman Aziz Al Qaiser, member Benazir Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Nesar Uddin Ahmed, along with deans, faculty members, officials and students.

Aziz Al Qaiser highlighted that the festive arrival of spring brought a message of joy and unity to the university community, reflecting the spirit of Bengali culture and harmony. Benazir Ahmed described spring as a symbol of renewal, hope, and youthful energy, emphasizing its cultural significance.

Chowdhury noted that NSU students proudly uphold the traditions, language, and cultural heritage of Bangladesh alongside academic excellence. Ahmed added that spring inspires new thoughts, aspirations and creativity across generations.

Sabnin Rahman Swarna, faculty advisor of the cultural organization club, said the university regularly hosts colorful events, with the Falgun program generating special excitement among students and teachers.

Celebration featured a vibrant spring rally, dance performances, recitations, musical shows, and a flash mob. Popular vocalist Mila delivered a solo performance that captivated the audience and heightened the festive atmosphere.

More than just a cultural event, the spring festival at NSU served as a meaningful celebration of Bengali heritage, unity, and tradition. The campus, filled with colorful attire, floral fragrances, and lively music, created a memorable experience that connected the younger generation with their cultural roots.

North South University hosted Professor Sheila Embleton president and vice chancellor of Algoma University, Canada, during her official visit on February 9, 2026.

During the visit, Professor Embleton held a formal meeting with the university’s leadership, where both sides discussed expanding academic cooperation and strengthening institutional ties. The program included the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reaffirming their commitment to collaborative research, faculty development and student exchange initiatives.

Addressing a street rally in Banani, Dhaka on Monday—the final full day of campaigning before Thursday’s polls—Tarique said the election had come at a heavy price. He referenced lives lost over the past 16 years in the struggle for a credible vote, including those killed during protests and the July 2024 mass uprising that led to the fall of the Awami League government.

“In two days’ time, that long-awaited election will take place,” he said, underscoring the significance of the moment.

He called on voters to support the BNP, describing it as the only party with a concrete plan to move the country forward. If elected, he pledged, the party would work alongside citizens to rebuild state institutions and restore democratic governance.

Tarique also appealed directly to voters in his constituency, Dhaka-17, asking them to cast their ballots for the BNP’s electoral symbol, the “sheaf of paddy.” He highlighted his personal connection to the area, noting that he grew up there after Bangladesh’s independence in 1971 and that his family has longstanding ties to the neighborhood.

Outlining the challenges facing a future BNP government, he cited youth unemployment, weaknesses in the education system, chronic traffic congestion, deteriorating roads, and what he described as widespread corruption linked to large-scale infrastructure projects undertaken over the past 15 years.
