Tamim Iqbal once one of the most trusted names in Bangladeshi cricket has left an indelible mark on the sport. As a former captain and prolific opening batsman, he played countless crucial innings and celebrated numerous memorable victories. Known for his confidence, he often referred to himself as the best opener in the country during his long and successful career.
Now after retiring from international cricket the Chittagong native has taken on a significant role in cricket administration. As the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Tamim has been actively contributing to the development of the sport in the country.
In recognition of his longstanding contributions to cricket, leadership qualities, and influence in Bangladesh’s sports arena, Tamim is set to be honored with the Begum Zia Memorial Gold Medal, established in memory of former BNP chairperson and late Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
The award is being presented by the Bangladesh Expatriate Citizens Committee (Inc.), which this year will honor 15 distinguished individuals. Among the recipients are former SAFF champion goalkeeper and current State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque; BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku; Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain; as well as advisors to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Mahdi Amin and Ismail Zabiullah.
Other notable awardees include BSS Managing Director Kamal Uddin Sabuj, Mayer Dak Organization’s Sanjida Islam Tuli, writer Dr. Mahbub Hasan, journalist Ashraf Kaiser, industrialist Dr. Abul Kashem Haider, businessman Abdul Haque, and Khaleda Zia’s personal assistant Fatema Begum.
