BRIGHT PREP ENGLISH COMPOSITION
IELTS and BRAC University Summer 2026 2nd Time Bachelor Admission Test Writing Task

Here’s a complete Bright Prep practice set (question + model answer):

Model Answer (Band 7.5–8.5 level)

Vaccination has long been regarded as one of the most effective tools in preventing infectious diseases. While some argue that governments should enforce mandatory vaccination to safeguard public health, others believe that individuals should retain the right to make their own medical decisions. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my own view.

On the one hand, making vaccination compulsory can significantly reduce the spread of contagious diseases. When a large proportion of the population is immunized, herd immunity is achieved, thereby protecting vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Governments also have a responsibility to ensure public safety, and mandatory vaccination policies can prevent outbreaks of diseases that are otherwise avoidable. For instance, illnesses like measles and polio have been largely controlled in countries where vaccination rates are high.

On the other hand, opponents of compulsory vaccination argue that it infringes upon individual freedom and personal choice. Medical decisions are deeply personal, and some individuals may have religious, ethical, or health-related concerns regarding vaccines. Furthermore, forcing people to vaccinate could lead to public distrust in authorities, especially if policies are implemented without adequate education or transparency. In such cases, persuasion and awareness campaigns may be more effective than strict enforcement.

In my opinion, while individual freedom is important, public health should take precedence in this matter. The risks posed by widespread vaccine refusal can have serious consequences for society as a whole. However, governments should combine mandatory policies with public education initiatives to ensure that citizens understand the benefits and safety of vaccination.

In conclusion, although personal choice is a valid concern, the collective benefits of compulsory vaccination outweigh the drawbacks. A balanced approach that includes both regulation and awareness is the most effective way to protect public health.
